Today is the 101st birthday of @nationalparkservice! 🎈🎊🎉 We are an agency of the United States federal government that manages all national parks, many national monuments, and other conservation and historical properties with various title designations, created on August 25, 1916, by Congress through the National Park Service Organic Act. We are an agency of the @usinterior. The #NPS is charged with a dual role of preserving the ecological and historical integrity of the places entrusted to its management, while also making them available and accessible for public use and enjoyment. To celebrate our 101st birthday, parks are being encouraged to tell their story via haiku - a Japanese verse in three lines (5 syallables / 7 syllables / 5 syllables). Going along with the photo of Mrs. Bethune and members of the NCNW meeting in the boardroom of the Council House, here is our attempt:
Beauty, black roses
All fought for equality
This history lives
We'd love for you to create a haiku about our beloved Mrs. Bethune, the NCNW, and/or Council House, too - just type it up and submit it as a comment below to help us celebrate!
