I found this on Tyrion Lannister's Facebook page.
Luck has very little to do with one's success in life. I agree that saying someone is "lucky" negates the hard work that goes into said success.
Instead, he's fortunate that his hard work paid off for him.
One might say I'm "lucky" I work for Middlebury College and live the life I live. I say I'm fortunate to have a job, a roof over my head, clothes on my back, food on the table, and people I call home. I'm fortunate to have had a great start in life and be set-up for success. I could have squandered my opportunities, but instead I chose to create more. Others have made far more from far less. It's not about luck. It's about working hard for what you want.
It can go as far as "luck" playing a part in being in the right place at the right time. But I like to think that if you've worked hard and well enough, you've put yourself at that right place and time.
