Sigur Rós - "Takk..." (2005) ["Thanks..."] -
It's been so awesome seeing everyone's submissions in this vinyl challenge. This prompt is moreso geared towards Americans like me who more than likely have record collections made up of mostly American / English-speaking bands/artists.
Music is a universal language, and although the majority of their lyrics are in Icelandic, Sigur Rós affects me on entirely different levels than most of who I listen to. Whenever I tell someone about their music, I feel like I'm evangelising about one of life's special treasures. They've honestly created some of the greatest music I've ever heard, all without me understanding a word Jónsi is saying.
Seeing them live was an experience I'll remember for the rest of my life. I was front row at the Raleigh, NC show of the Kveikur tour. It was lightly raining for the entirety of the show, and I had never felt so overwhelmed in my life.
This album has gorgeous packaging, and I was so thrilled when the reissue was announced. I kind of regret not having an "etched vinyl" prompt as part of this challenge, so I'm glad I could show off the b-side of the 10" that comes with the album. You listen through both sides of the first 12" disc, take out the 10" from a sleeve built into the middle of the gatefold, play the one song on it, then continue with the second disc.
