#ForrestMyers

Drove up to Damascus, Pa to spend few days at Frosty's new museum that he just built. The whole space has 17,000 sq-ft and the work of his is still over powering the space. It is absolutely mind blowing💥🙀💥 #forrestmyers

In 1969, Robert Rauschenberg and Forrest Meyers (possibly?) succeeded on getting one of these tiny ~1cm wide iridium-plated ceramic chips on the moon. Named "The Moon Museum" (1969), scientists at Bell Laboratories etched drawings by 6 artists onto these chips. Starting clockwise from the upper left corner, the drawings are Andy Warhol's "initials"🤔, Rauschenberg's straight line, David Novros' black square, a drawing by Forrest Meyers, a Mickey Mouse-like doodle by Claes Oldenberg, and a design by John Chamberlain. Forrest Meyers had asked NASA to help send one of these chips to the moon, but when they didn't respond, one of the engineers fabricating the Lunar Lander was asked to help. One of the chips is rumored to have been attached to one of the legs of the Lunar Lander used for Apollo 12.

No filter needed for this blue beauty. Forrest Myers' Wall (1973) looking stunning earlier today. Thank god he won his long fight to get this piece landmarked or this would have been relegated to memory. An amazing example of the arts beating out property development! #nycpublicart #forrestmyers #streetart

#TheMoonMuseum: When Apollo 12 landed on the #moon in 1969, it may have been carrying an edition of this artwork covertly attached to the leg of the #lunar lander and featuring drawings by #JohnChamberlain, #ForrestMyers, #DavidNovros, #ClaesOldenburg, #RobertRauschenberg and #AndyWarhol. "The Gateway to Soho" colorful artwork by Forrest Myers stands about 8 stories tall at the intersection of Houston and Broadway. This huge swath of color always makes me smile 💙💚

You've surely passed it, but do you know the backstory of The Wall, a.k.a. “The Gateway to Soho”? In 1973, Forrest Myers was commissioned by the owner of 599 Broadway to install the piece as a way cover the building's architectural scars. In 1997, however, the building's new owner wanted the art removed claiming that it was causing structural damage (though, in reality, he wanted the wall to be a giant advertising billboard). The piece was removed in 2002 to make repairs but wasn't reinstalled again until 2007—and that was after the city threatened to sue for its re-installation. As compared to the original, the 42 green bars and blue background are placed 18 feet higher allowing for some advertising space closer to the ground.

Obsessed with this ceramic chip drawing commissioned by Forrest Myers of E.A.T. and executed at Bell Laboratories in 1969. Rauschenberg, Oldenberg, Warhol, Novros, Chamberlain and Myers all have drawings on this tiny chip! Can you guess which artist made what? #robertrauschenbergamongfriends #robertrauschenberg #andywarhol #claesoldenburg #davidnovros #johnchamberlain #forrestmyers #themuseumofmodernart @themuseumofmodernart @drawingcenter

Forrest Myers, a member of Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.), invited Rauschenberg, (one of the founding members of E.A.T.) and five other artists to make drawings, which were etched by scientists at Bell Laboratories onto tiny wafer-thin iridium-plated ceramic chips. When NASA didn’t respond to Myers’s request, Bell Labs scientist Fred Waldhauer asked an engineer to help get the work to the moon. According to Waldhauer, one copy of the chip was covertly attached to the leg of the lunar lander.

In addition to Rauschenberg’s straight line, there is a Mickey Mouse–like figure by Claes Oldenburg, stylized initials by Andy Warhol ("He was being the terrible bad boy," said Forrest Myers in an interview), a black square by David Novros, a computer-generated drawing by Myers, and a circuit-like diagram by John Chamberlain. #rauschenberg at #moma has a lot of surprises and I enjoyed it thoroughly. This collection of drawings may or may not have landed on the moon. #themoonmuseum #claesoldenburg #andywarhol #forrestmyers #johnchamberlain #davidnovros #experimentsinartandtechnology
