My #benjaminfranklin #3dprint is complete. The front of the pedestal reads "Water American." When Benjamin worked at a print shop in #England he was confused by his colleagues who drank six pints of ale each day at work, spending most of their wages on the habit. The #Englishman claimed the strength to lift heavy lead printing tablets all day came from the strong ale they drank. Benjamin reasoned that he could get the same nutrition for a penny's worth of bread. Baffled by Benjamin's ability to carry heavy tablets upstairs completely sober, they nicknamed him the "Water American".
The right side features a #crab. When Benjamin was writing his autobiography he left out some of his less important accomplishments, such as inventing bifocals, but talked at length about the time he discovered that crabs were half plant. When on a ship he noticed some crabs in a bucket of seaweed. The crabs hadn't been there before, he thought, so they must have spawned from the seaweed. Therefore seaweed was the larval form of the crab and he had found an important missing link. #3dprinting #maker #form2 #formlabs #beautifulthings #ushistory #drunkhistory #foundingfathers #solidworks #transparent
