A new release from Forest Hill winemaker Guy Lyons. It's a ripper. Nostalgic yet racy. Awesome seeing how the younger generations of winemakers in the region are expressing themselves w/ classic regional varieties like this. Btw, how good is Porongurup Riesling!? Great story behind the wine & its gorgeous label. I had a chat to Guy recently & in his words... "The vineyard is called Springviews and is a south facing site on the west side of the Porongurups. Awesome spot. The property has sping fed soaks in the middle of the property but the soils are all old laterite based. Planted in 1985, and interestingly the Riesling cuttings came from the Forest Hill vineyard (block1). The site is dry grown and quite cool, getting the southerly breezes. For the last few years the Riesling has gone to the Howard park Porongurup Riesling.
Label name is Lowboi, which is name of the farm my mum grew up on in Tambelup. Artwork is Bella Kelly who was an incredible Noongar artist in the great southern. She painted a lot of landscapes of the Stirlings and Porongurup range." Regarding the wine... "Chill it and give it an hour to open up, really mineral aroma, smells like wet stone and bath salts to me. Has about 4.5g/l sugar too." #lowboiriesling #foresthillwines #guylyons #senseofplace #terroir #terwahhh #porongurup #lowboi #greatsouthernproduce #greatsouthernwine #riesling
