Noch 4 Tage bis zum ersten Wettkampf über die 5.000m in dieser Saison. Training lief diese Woche nach Plan. Am Mittwoch 12 x 400 in 1:23 gestartet und in 1:20 aufgehört und heute einen gesteigerten 10er von 4:36 bis 3:40.

That 14 mph headwind for the first half sure felt like more. Also glad I wore sunglasses even with the cloud cover as I got pelted with beach sand. On a positive note I finished just before the rain started.

Week 4/Day6(Parkrun)

Wasn’t really sure what to expect this morning. Last parkrun was back in January, been 10k ‘training’ more recently. My goal after jan was to hit sub 7:30 pace (7:33 last time) wasn’t particular confident of getting it as most of my training recently has been substantially slower than that.

Started off towards the front and set off at what I thought was a pretty strong pace. Literally had hoards of folk passing me!! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ Didn’t panic, didn’t even check the watch to see what I was doing, just trusted what I was feeling. 7:43 came thru my headphones. Not as quick as I hoped for, but def not a slow as I feared with the masses flying past me!!!

Tucked in behind a few people during the second mile. Did the pretty easy math and worked out that I’d need to hit a 7:20 mile somewhere to get the target. 7:28 comes thru. Tbh I pretty much thought that was it at that point. Knowing I still needed a 7:20 to PB I thought was a big ask.

Still kept picking people off throughout the third mile. It’s loop course and I noticed the same folk coming towards me a bit further back. Didn’t know if they were slowing or I was quickening. Again, no clock watching (apart from split time). Kept the breathing in control, ran tall. What would be would be. Tried to maintain pace at the’400m to go’ sign. Building up for a quicker finish(I don’t/can’t sprint. Legs don’t turnover quick enough). Even turned my music off at this point. Through the headphone 7:21!!! Never ran a mile that quick in a 5k before. Let alone the final one!!

That really gave me a boost for the final 0.1 no one was passing me at that stage. Stride lengthened, I was definitely gasping crossing the line. 23:15!!!!! Banging!!! 7:28 avg pace!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Without a doubt the quickest I’ve finished a run. The 10k training has definitely increased my strength and engine.
