Good Morning!! Starting the day with some MATCHA latte action. I love using Unsweetened @thenewbarn because it froths is easily and doesn’t have added sugar. Alsooooo this is my first try at a video! Do you like?

Matcha tips:
1. Don’t burn the tea with boiling hot water! I found a kettle with a thermometer attached so I can keep it in the “green” zone so I don’t over-do it. 🍵🍵
2. Be picky about the type you buy, get ceremonial grade. I’ve been hooked on @panateamatcha for quite some time now. I use 1/2 tsp and 50-80mL of water in an 8oz mug. And fill the rest with milk.💚💚
3. Which brings me to my 3rd tip.... the milk MATTERS! Especially if you’re adding ice. Lattes are mostly milk anyway 🍼🍼

Current mood captured perfectly in a sign. But how? I’ve recently been reminded about the power of breathing and it’s importance. That’s not some woo-woo philosophical thing either, it’s science. You can go days without water, weeks without food but only minutes without oxygen. And we tend to not breathe fully/deeply/correctly to power fundamental actions in our body (metabolism, digestion for example) because we run around stressed all day!! Check that!

Kisses from the beach!! This weekend, the hubby and I somewhat spontaneously skipped town and headed to Miami Beach. I unplugged, got all the vitamins D and SEA in, hit up @tropicalvinyasa and @soulcycle classes and had the best time. Feeling recharged!! It’s exactly what I needed. ————————
Traveling with allergies means you need to be extra prepared. It leaves me pretty tightly wound and a tad obsessive at times... which is exactly what I needed to escape from in the first place. So I just packed some @epicbar snacks to have just in case and had a few go-to places in my back pocket. I visited @dirteatclean daily for breakfast (bonus... they have homemade unsweetened coconut and almond milks for coffee!!), found a new-to-me restaurant, @olarestaurant which has a pork over mashed yucca dish that was PERFECT! The waiters were so friendly and accommodating of my allergies which sadly isn’t common but so appreciated!! We also love @estiatorio_milos for amazing simple Mediterranean food. You pick out your own fish like a legit Greek Taverna and they prepare it with lemon, olive oil, herbs and capers. I didn’t stress, trusted, and took it slow and am pleased to say this is one trip I did not get sick from hahaha! WIN. ————————

Food prep game on today! Just finished making @foodbymars Vegan Butternut Squash Lasagna with Cashew Cheese. I changed out the Kale Pesto for sautéed spinach and mushrooms and I did buy @kitehillfoods ricotta and Regal Vegan Basilicotta. Next time I think a little less cheese and more spinach and mushrooms.

(#ad) Let's chat Vitamin D - something that many of us do not get enough of, especially around this time of year, and the deficiency can really take a toll. Firstly, it's a HORMONE and not a vitamin. It's fat-soluble, meaning you absolutely need good fats for your body to assimilate the Vitamin D and use it (see my post on EFA's and supplements a couple of posts ago). And blocking the sun with the use of (usually toxic) sunblocks, means you're not getting enough even in the summer... let alone the winter! ----
I used to brush off being low on vitamin D because my previous traditional doctors never made a big deal of it. However, after properly supplementing with Vitamin D, I saw amazing benefits like better/clearer skin, improved mood, and focus, and it really can help with depression/winter blues and general anxiety. For those with health issues and autoimmune disease - it's non-negotiable --> you need to have optimal levels of this stuff. ----

DO YOU NEED TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS? //
Here are some reasons to consider:
- Our soil is depleted. Over the years, over the course of pesticide usage, pollution, and other environmental factors... our soil is not the rich, fertile, mineral-rich soil it used to be. After reviewing studies and charts comparing percentages of vitamins in our crops, to see it dwindle more and more is very sad but true. So, unfortunately, eating well and eating organic when you can is very helpful... but may not be enough.
- Fad diets we've grown with and were birthed into (I'm looking at you, LOW FAT diets) from previous generations have depleted our bodies of essential fatty acids. The sunblock craze has depleted our Vitamin D levels which many people do not take seriously, though it's a hormone and not even a vitamin. So yeah, KINDA A BIG DEAL. I could go on and on with what diets, fads, and bunk research have done to our bodies.
- Many people have issues with digestion and nutrient absorption. Digestion is an intricate process all starting with your brain. We tend to rush and inhale our food setting us up for a domino effect of poor digestion. Or from years and years of eating processed foods and excess sugar, taking antibiotics, etc. - we've damaged our gut lining and our intestines are impaired. This directly affects nutrient absorption meaning all the kale salads in the world aren't enough to give you the essential vitamins and minerals your cells require to function and keep you at your best!

I'd recommend always getting a copy of your blood work at your physicals --> make sure you don't just accept "oh everything was fine, bye" and get the actual papers, you want to be at OPTIMAL levels not just in range. --
Anyone can benefit at a bare minimum from a good multi-vitamin, fish oil/EFA, probiotic, & right now in the winter... vitamin D3. For gut issues... digestive enzymes are mega helpful as well.

Meal Prep Life! I made 4 lovely meals only to remember I’m traveling half the week LOL 🙄🤣 Guess I have breakfasts or backup dinners covered too. Here’s what’s cookin’:

Tongol Tuna Salad mixed with @primalkitchenfoods mayo and @gothamgreens vegan pesto on top of arugula-cabbage-sprouts salad. On the side: Coconut-Curry Acorn Squash! I made it by tossing slices of squash in coconut oil, yellow curry powder, salt & pepper, and shredded unsweetened coconut. I roasted on 400f degrees for 30 minutes, flipping in between.

Almond Flour Crusted Turkey Breast which is a leftover from dinner last night! I made these in the oven this time and they came out perfect! I think I'll be sharing that technique on the blog soon. On the side: Roasted radishes in garlic powder, salt, and pepper which I roasted along with my squash and some leftover broccolini. ----

Had some “me-time” today with a @onepeloton class by @allymisslove filled with 90’s music and that was SO FUN! Followed by a fresh cut and color @butterflystudiosalon because I’m celebrating moi! BOTH the spin class and whole hair situation are honestly sensitive topics for me because both have been a true challenge the past few years with Hashimoto’s. But after NAILING my @ntatraining final yesterday (🎉 which I couldn’t be more proud of), something came over me. I felt amazing and without thinking, signed up for the first spin class I’ve gone to in 2yrs. It used to be my JAM until the joint pain took over. Well, I’ve been working up to this (thank you to my trainer @tayloredfitness) and got my a$$ up super early and sweat it out. I’m home now foam rolling and essential oiling it up and it was so worth it. ——
As for my hair? After losing 75% of it, I am finally on the upswing. I can hardly even believe it myself. Five years of being sad over it and I’m actually seeing the healing process before my very eyes. It’s amazing... and what’s more amazing is my long time stylists who knew me before all this- confirmed it today. I will be sharing my advice and tips, this is something near and dear to my heart. ——
So in short, I’m rather stoked RN!! And I totally updated my profile... “Nutritional Therapist” yayyyyyy! I’m also beyond thankful for my supportive friends and fam. Cold and Flu is going AROUND like woah right now. I’ve been avoiding it but it’s starting to feel like it’s finally catching up with me. CHICKEN SOUP STAT!! Here’s what else I’m doing: 2 pills of Quercetin + C, @tracemineralsresearch vitamin packs in my water, @barebonesbroth, and getting more than enough sleep!! Drops of oregano oil and echinacea are great too, though I’ll admit i hate the taste LOL.

To make this soup super quick, I heat up bone broth, throw in a cooked/pulled chicken breast plus any veggies I can find like a ton of spinach and favorite herbs... and voila! ------------------------------------------
