This week’s easy weeknight recipe: Baharat spiced lamb with roast pumpkin and mushrooms. I love lamb cutlets. Standard dinner food my parents use to make was Asian food when I was a kid and when we had Western food it would be lamb cutlets with vegetables which I always enjoyed. As an adult I love it too because lamb is one of those versatile meats that can take you on a global adventure of flavours as many cultures use lamb in their dishes. I just marinated mine with Baharat, which is a Middle Eastern spice mix, with sweet and smokey flavour of paprika, cumin, pepper, coriander, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom and cloves and a bit of olive oil in a small bowl and panfried it. Add you favourite roast veggies and you’re set for a delicious, juicj easy nutritious meal ...

Protein, leafy greens 🌱, B vitamins, and good fats.....tick all these boxes in some way each day and you're off to a good start.

In this instance they took the form of Mushrooms for the B vitamins, baby spinach for the leafy greens, scrambled eggs for the protein, and avocado for the good fats... And don't forget to season your food....Food needs to taste good...a little grated parmesan, sea salt and pepper in the eggs, pepper on the mushrooms and a little lemon juice and chilli flakes on the avocado..

essential oils & liver toxicity

Its strongly advised never to ingest essential oils unless professionally advised (we’ve covered the whys many times)

When eating fresh herbs you only ingest small amounts of active components.

When extracted you are now ingesting a pure concentration of soluble nutrients depending on extraction method.

In Layman’s terms;
Ingesting essential oils is equivalent to using morphine over eating a poppy flower.

You will always be able to find necessary information on the labels.

E.g;
30ml @ 5:1 strength means you are ingesting 5gm of active plant constitutes for every 1ml of essential oil.
(suitable carrier oils is another story. Water and fat are not soluble meaning the active components will not dilute.
this has been a cause to several health issues, especially in children, but I digress).

Coumarin, the active compound in Cinnamon is liver toxic, even deadly in small amounts.
**LD50 ~296mg:kg/BW in rats.
**TDI - 0.1m:kg/bw in humans.

Cinnamon extract (coumarin) in excess, has not only been linked to liver disease but also cancer growth.

If interested look into the entourage effect, first stated by Aristotle: ‘The whole is worth more than the sum of its parts.’

Later being implied by Israeli cannabis research pioneers; the whole plant medicine is more effective then single compound extracts.

**these herbs may or may not be organic, meaning more than likely carrying trace amounts of glyphosate used in herbicides and pesticides (recently making the headlines as a cancer causing chemical).

CAUSES of bloating
1. Lactose intolreance
2. Fructose
3. Excess fibre
4. eating too fast, etc.
5. IBS
6. Celiac diseases
7. Constipation
8. Periods
9. Drinking with straws, too many carbonated drinks, etc.
10. Excessive consumption of raw foods and fibre. .

What is causing bloating in your case? Find the trigger and work on eliminating it.
For eg. If you feel bloated after meals- think of things like- do you eat too fast? Do you chew properly, did you have water /carbonated drinks, etc. during/before/after your meal
Figure out when it happens and what did you eat/do in the last few hours. This will help you find the trigger. .

You will feel better once you eliminate what ever is causing the problem in your case. .

👉 Apart for this, here are some prevention strategies:
1. Fennel tea.

2. Peppermint tea.
.
3. Probiotics like yogurt etc. .
4. Subtracting fibre (in case you diet is high in fibre ).

5. Have water 15-20 mins before having your meal and only 25-30 mins after your meal. In case you are very thirsty, take some small sips. .
6. Stop eating fruits after meals. .
7. Do not feed your body when it's hungry. Chances are that there is undigested food lying side, so don't force more. .
8. Reduce the quantity of raw food on your plate salads,sprouts, etc. .
9. Reduce salt if you eat a lot of it.

I didn't realize why I chose those toppings until I took my first bite of my purslane dish sauteed with tromboncino, yellow squash, mushroom, garlic, onion, and sage. It reminded me of a dish I ate when I was much younger - a dish my seto (arabic for grandma) prepared for me, which I devoured so eagerly. I feel rekindled to my child-like and curious soul🌙☄🌌. I am deeply grateful to enjoy the flavors and wonders purslane has awakened in my spirit, softened my heart and satisfied my appetite .

One thing I love to eat is nori stuffed with raw goodies. For me this is happy food. 😬 I used baby spinach, cucumber, different coloured capsicum/bell peppers & avocado.
