Day 3 - Deadlifts

Starting to make deadlifts my bitch again 😎. This was my top set at 90kgs, weight isn’t moving too bad which I was happy with. Looking forward to getting back in the 100’s again 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🦍🦍.

Yes, we want big lifts, big totals and gold medals, and we don’t need to be highly fit or killing everyone at conditioning but you also don’t want to be passing out at the top of a flight of stairs 🤕
You still people, health is always priority #1 regardless of sport, goals or aspirations 🏆

Strength athletes just need to be more specific:
- Work hard for 20-30 seconds ⏳
- Rest for 30-40 seconds ⏰
- Repeat 10 times👟
- Try not to die ⚰️

Day 2 - Comp Bench

Bought a singlet and did some bench this morning.
First time ever doing competition bench today, I went loose after my second rep and struggled to come back from it which was a steep learning curve.

Maxed out on the 4th set with 85kgs instead of 5th, another lesson learned lol I got a bit ambitious. Keen for deadlifts tomorrow 😎.

300kg x 3 reps. Final deadlift session before comp. My plan was to hit 3 reps on this and on my third rep I wasn’t happy with the speed of the rep for some reason. I’m not sure what I was expecting but when I look back at the video I’m actually happy with how this moved. This is good 😊

Yesterday I posted on my story about how my training session didn’t feel as good as I expected and asked you all how your session went and three quarters of you also said it wasn’t your day. So I want to talk about bad days and not letting them demotivate you. Before I do though, yes I am wearing pants 🙈 Ok so bad days... It’s easy to let one bad day put you off training for the rest of the week but that doesn’t have to happen! Here’s how:

Firstly, you need to accept that not every day will be perfect, not just in your training, but in all aspects of life and that’s ok. When it comes to your training, think about why things didn’t go to plan or why you weren’t happy with the session.
- How are your energy levels, did you sleep enough and eat well?
- Are there other factors in your life or the gym that could be taking your focus away? Did something happened earlier in your day that frustrated or upset you and impacted your mood?
- Is what you were trying to achieve unrealistic? Perhaps the weights were just too heavy for your current strength levels or the workout too long for the time you had available.
Identifying the reason behind why you didn’t perform is such an important part of being able to accept it and not put you off future sessions. Some things may be out of your control and you’ll just need to accept it as a learning experience, but a lot of the time you’ll be able find a solution. Ensure the next night you get enough sleep, be sure not to skip meals again, put your earphones in if you get distracted at the gym, reassess the weights and / or your program so you can properly complete it each time.

How deep should you be squatting? 🤷🏻‍♂️
I was brought up on the belief that if it wasn’t ass to grass, it didn’t count, and I will admit, there is something pretty damn cool when I see someone hitting rock bottom in a squat with a heavy weight on their shoulders, but there’s also something cool about understanding the body and how it moves and being strong and injury free forever.
So should you squat deep? Hell yes! You should squat as deep as YOUR mobility allows, and if you break that rule, it may not be the only thing that breaks 🤔
