With all these posts on gut health I’ve been doing lately, I’m getting lots of messages from people who are telling me that they are always bloated. Ugh, I know the struggle and it is not fun. Not only is bloating uncomfortable, but it can be a legit cause of insecurity.

Back before I knew anything about this stuff, my diet was filled with dairy and grains, I chewed gum all day long, and I added Splenda to just about everything. Needless to say I walked around most days looking and feeling like I was 6 months pregnant. No fun. But once I eliminated most of these offenders, I soon started feeling better. If bloating is something you struggle with, look to see if any of these foods are staples in your diet.

Dairy intolerance is incredibly common. Many people don’t have the enzyme to break down lactose, the sugar in milk, which results in gas and a distended gut. If you can’t live without dairy, try using grass fed yogurt, hard cheeses, or even dairy from goats or sheep.

Grains, like oats, rice, and bread, and legumes, like beans, lentils and peanuts, can be a good source of fiber, but they can wreak havoc on your digestion. Try getting your fiber instead from well cooked veggies, some fruit, and sweet potatoes.

I love me some vegetables, but I try eat them cooked as often as possible. Raw veggies, especially cruciferous ones like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and brussels sprouts, are hard for the body to break down, which will lead to bloating.

FODMAPS stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols. These are types of carbs which can’t be broken down in the small intestine and instead ferment (causing gas) in the large intestine. High FODMAP foods are things like dairy, grains, apples, avocado, onions, and garlic. I’d suggest googling to see which foods might be causing you trouble, as some people aren’t intolerant to all of them.

Artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols can’t be completely absorbed in the digestive system, also leading to fermentation. If you need to sweeten something, try natural sugars or something like stevia.

Asparagus cauliflower rice with poached eggs for dinner. Quick and healthy dinners are what I need lately! All about that speed and efficiency. But gotta make sure we have all the flavor.

Ingredients:
2 heads cauliflower
Bundle of asparagus
Green onion
Lemon juice
Salt, pepper, garlic powder, avocado oil, red pepper flakes
Eggs
Vinegar for water
Directions: use a cheese grater and grate the crap out of your heads of cauliflower. Put avocado oil in saute pan and add your cauliflower and diced green onion (the white part). Salute for 5 minutes. In a second pan, saute asparagus with seasonings and avocado oil for 5 minutes. Add asparagus to cauliflower and add Lemon, and green onion (green part) cook down for another 5 minutes. Poach your eggs in water with 1 tsp vinegar and you got dinner in under 30 minutes!

I'm one of the main cooks for my family Christmas celebrations and this year I will be attempting the near impossible; to make a main dish that is gluten free, keto friendly, pescetarian keto friendly, low FODMAP and vegetarian. And hopefully something that the meat and three veg loving family members will also eat. Not an easy feat.

I've been brainstorming and I have a few undeveloped ideas but if anyone has suggestions I'd be more than happy to have the input! 😊🎄🎅👼 I'll keep you posted on any trials, fails or successes.

Tonight for dinner mum made a delicious pesto prawn pasta, which was so goooood 😍 she made the pesto from scratch using basil from the garden and only added a very small amount of garlic, so hopefully I tolerate it okay 🤞🏻 mum’s homemade cooking is definitely one of the things I miss most about living out of home 😭

Starting from scratch with your gut? CUT THE CRAP! Eat whole veg and clean grass fed meat, then introduce foods slowly (weekly) and monitor how your stomach and body feels. Cuanto más frío fuera, más calorcito al estómago!
Entre tantas comidas y cenas fuera, el SII estaba tardando en aparecer, así que una comida ligera pero bien rica!
Crema de calabaza y zanahoria con un toque de nuez moscada ,pimienta blanca y levadura nutricional de @pepitaygrano
Para hacer de esta crema algo "masticable" y que no perdamos la conciencia de comer por tragar sin masticar, he añadido cebolla deshidratada y una cucharada de kamut que tenía ya cocido de @elgraneldecorredera

No es su mejor época de consumo, y eso se nota en su sabor y precio, pero es bajo en FODMAPs y no pudé resistir comprarlo 😍

Él ha sido el protagonista de mi desayuno de hoy junto con yogur natural sin lactosa y crema de cacahuete.

¿Habéis probado alguna vez el yogur sin lactosa? Me resulta súper dulce (esto es por la presencia de galactosa y glucosa libre, en lugar de lactosa) y no me agrada demasiado 😏

Esto último tiene mucho que ver con la reeducación de mi paladar. Hace unos añitos me hubiera encantado. Con esto reafirmo una vez más que podemos disminuir el umbral de dulce/salado si nos lo proponemos.

👀 no penséis que este tipo de yogures pueden ser una alternativa para quienes no les gusta el natural. Si no eres intolerante a lactosa, dejar de consumirla puede favorecer que disminuyas la producción de lactasa y con el tiempo te vuelvas intolerante.
.
Además, parece ser que la lactasa favorece la absorción del calcio, asi que mejor anímate a acostumbrarte a yogures cada vez menos dulces 😉

Volvemos a la cargar tras conseguir dormir más de cuatro horas seguidas....eso se merece un buen desayuno no?

Whew, Monday night. It’s always a challenge to make extravagant meals the first day back at work. I decided to repurpose my soup from yesterday into a sauce for my pasta and made some ground turkey meatballs, as well as some sautéed peppers and mushrooms. With having so many dietary restrictions, it can be difficult to find pasta sauce with no dairy, garlic, onions or tomatoes! This soup is a nice way to flavor my pasta ☺️I may even try it for a pizza sauce tomorrow! 🍕
Also, this arugula is still goin’ strong! 💪🏼🌱

Hoy se me ha antojado mi plato preferido de pasta (versión de harina de maíz, arroz y quinoa -SIN GLUTEN del mercadona-) con pesto.

La salsa la elaboro con una buena cantidad de albahaca fresca, un poco de queso, AOVE y una cucharada del agua de cocción de la pasta.

Todos los ingredientes son bajos en FODMAPs 👏

Desde que @raquel.bernacer preparo la crema de coliflor y pera sabía que tenía que hacerla para seguir reconciliandome con la coliflor....y seguimos por buen camino!
No sabéis que delicia!bueno, está y todas las que Raquel prepara, por que no hay ni una de las que he preparado que no me haya encantado!
Y para darle un poco más de textura añadí uno garbanzos especiados.
