Do the right thing
Daniel did the right thing, but not because it was easy. Far from it in fact. He was taken into a foreign land as a slave, castrated, forced to study the language and behaviours of a pagan nation, his identity taken away, a new name forced upon him and then thrust into the service of a wicked king.
While in Babylon, he submitted to everyone in authority over him. Rather than focus on the failings of the natural kings he served, or be bitter about his environment and circumstances, Daniel focused on the power and sovereignty of the king of all. His posture of submission was not out of fear of what the natural authorities would do to him, but out of reverence for God. He understood that God places people in authority for various reasons and armed with that understanding, his focus was on serving God, not on the earthly authorities. And God saw this and rewarded him.
When we do the right thing, God sees, even when no one acknowledges it, even when we’re not rewarded for it, perhaps we may even be punished for it. But God sees, and he has promised that he will reward everyone for everything they have done - good or bad. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24
Strategy: Ask God to help you stay focused on him and working in a manner pleasing to him, regardless of who is in authority over you.
