Hey everyone, this is Garry from AlaskaFit Productions. It's been a really interesting year, but I thought it was time to share this with everyone.
Myself and my wife have hosted the Alaska fitness expo, along with the NPC Crystal cup and AFX strongman championships for the past 11 years. Friday before AFX I started experiencing severe abdominal pain, and my decision was to man up and try to get through the show. By the time Monday came around the pain was unbearable. I drove myself to the local First Care and I was told they couldn't do anything for me and I needed to go to the ER.
I found out I had a very rare gallbladder infection, apparently no stones or anything to block drainage. It was just infected and inflamed extremely badly. The bad part, the doctor said I had about a 20% chance of things going south during the surgery, so I was put in for an emergency gallbladder removal. I had to wait about 24 hours in excruciating pain before they were able to get me in due to the hospital being on lockdown from some shootings that night.
Everything said and done, I made it out pretty cut up but with the best possible outcome. And the best part of everything, I woke up with about 10 or 15 of my friends as soon as I got out of the operating room. I can't thank you guys enough for all your support, but it's just like my marine Buddy says, "20% are rookie numbers... You didn't die on the table". If you ever need a pick-me-up, don't talk to him.
