Product Review #8: Larsen String Review @larsenstrings.
HUGE thank you to @gramercymusic and Larsen for sending me 2 sets of wonderful strings - Tzigane and Virtuoso!
For this review, it will be on the Virtuoso set.
Do check out Gramercy @gramercymusic if you are interested in getting some Larsen strings - they just restocked after having their sale!
String break-in time was actually really short and did not require much tuning, as opposed to my old Evahs🤔
The E string is made using a unique carbon steel, while the A, D and G strings are built on a new, pioneering synthetic multi-filament core. The A string is wound with precision rolled aluminium flat wire while the D and G strings are wound with pure silver.
Larsen Virtuoso also offers strings in medium and strong tension. The medium tension strings shows amazing string response and playability. The strong version is more focused in sound and has much more resistance to bow pressure.
I liked the G, D and E alot! It was very easy to play and didnt require much effort unlike some newer strings which you have to really dig into the strings to get sound out of it😑G and D were comfortable in higher registers and produced a much fuller sound. I loved the E among all the strings and I think I'd be sticking with Larsen Virtuoso E or Westminster.
Not sure if it's just me, but when I put on the A string and started trying on from 4th position onwards, I just got this really weird sound when I pressed different fingers down on the string for eg. let's say 2nd finger is F on A string in 4th position, so when I start playing F-G-A (2-3-4) or F-A-G (2-4-3) in slurred bow, I will just get this squeaky sound and both notes after F cannot be heard. This continued for a day or 2 then it finally opened up to sounding really rich and powerful which matches the remaining 3 strings!😁What a relief! #VKReviews
Overall, I had a wonderful experience with Larsen Virtuoso strings and cannot wait to try out the Tzigane once this set wears out:) The price of Larsen strings is INCREDIBLY competitive as well🤗
