Breathing evenly and consciously is one of the most important parts in my asana practice. An exhalation can all of a sudden lift you up in an inversion, it stretches the muscle a little deeper and it relaxes everything so you can withstand uncomfortable positions. An inhalation can expand your body to make room to move even further into the asana. The breath is the most powerful of all. I hope that eventually I will take that conscious breath off of the mat and into my life to relax, stay focused and calmly sail through any storms coming my way. Breathing my way into #natarajasana or #dancerpose 💕for day 5 of #flowintointention

Strength
is the theme for today’s pose in the #flowintointention challenge - and today’s flow for me encapsulates a different kind of strength, the willingness to make it to my mat in the morning to open up my body. The strength to stay in these first stretches and poses that I find so challenging - finding the mental strength to come, to stay, and to sit with the hard poses. The strength to breathe through the sensations in hero’s pose, through the whole process of getting my body warm again, knowing that every day is a new adventure and challenge on the mat.

I find balance in my life by not tipping over to one side too much. I believe in a glass (or two) of wine 🍷 but also in my morning smoothie 🥑. I believe in being silly (ask the hubby) and in immersing myself in deep conversation. I believe in vigorous vinyasa practice and longer rests on my mat. I believe in pushing myself towards my goal and sometimes just going with the flow. The key to me is to always come back to center. This morning I practiced my balance in warrior 3 for day 6 of #flowintointention and tonight I have a belly full of Thai food. 🍜💁🏼‍♀️And that’s ok.

DETERMINATION ✨
I’ve been putting off the last post for #flowintointention because I kept thinking I’d have time to shoot some new photos. Alas, no time this week so here’s a picture you’ve already seen. ✨DETERMINATION✨
This year one of my goals for myself is to be able to pop up into handstand whenever I want and be able to hold it and also learn to press. The picture on the left was taken two nights ago. The picture on the right was taken a month ago. Not everyone may be able to see it, but there are huge differences in these two pictures. I am so much more engaged now than I was last month. But the bigger difference is between how these two handstands felt. On the right, it took me a while to kick up into that and my husband had to shoot pretty quickly to get me just at the right moment where I didn’t look was I was going to topple over. The picture on the left was so much more controlled. I actually held several handstands and decided on this shot because you could see how engaged I was. Not every one of my handstands looks like this quite yet, but I’m getting there! 😘💕

✨BALANCE✨
In practice, balancing is not the hardest thing for me to do (that title goes to flexibility 😂), but half moon has been my balancing nemesis since day 1!! I can’t even tell you how many times we took this photo for me to be able to hold it long enough to actually get my leg up into sugarcane. It’s sssoooo hard. Balance in life on the other hand is much harder. I’m currently settling into a new schedule and with that comes a lot of unbalance, so wish me luck figuring that out!! 💕

✨BREATH✨
Breath in an asana practice is one of the most beautiful parts about it. Before I started yoga, breathing was actually really hard for me to do 😂 I know that sounds weird but it’s true. I could just never breathe deeply. I still don’t think I breathe quite right, but when I’m practicing, my breath is intentional and deep. There are so many different breathing techniques but I thought I would share what my #ujjayibreath sounds like during a vinyasa. (Sorry for the annoying clicking of the camera 😬

✨STILLNESS✨
If you had asked me a year ago if I would ever find stillness in a forward fold, I would have told you that you were crazy. If you had told me in October (picture on the right) that that protrusion bump in my back would no longer be showing it’s ugly face, I would have told you that I had accepted my scoliosis and that that’s just how my back was. So when I saw this picture on the left that I took today, my jaw dropped!!!! And so for stillness I choose forward fold because it is finally here that my head clears, my body surrenders and I finally feel still. ✨
