I visited this big hill on my #wetdog adventure yesterday. It's a special hill, it even has its own plaque. There were all these people running up it so I decided to go see what was up there! ➡️ Made it to the top! Not sure what all the fuss is about. Now they're all running back down the hill!! ➡️ Maybe this is the cool part?? Actually what I thought was really cool was the smelly trashcan that was behind me!😅
Quick history lesson from the human: This is a Native American mound. This part of the Tampa Bay area was once inhabited by the Tocobaga tribe. This site is believed to have been their capital, though these mounds were also used for burial and ceremonial purposes. We do not have a historical record from the Tocobaga themselves aside from artifacts. The most information we have is from Spanish settlers who interacted with the tribe, brought disease and violence, and the tribe died out in the 1700s.
Native American sites like this one are all across the country, they're really cool. We'd recommend visiting one near you, especially if it's in a dog friendly park!
