Happy international day of yoga!

I went to a practice a few weeks back and I feel like the instructor had no concept of anatomy. She literally came by my mat and told me to drop my hip in EVERY three-legged dog that I took. She couldn’t seem to grasp the concept that my hip was closed in this posture (I don’t take the open-hip variation unless instructed to do so, as I find it counter-productive to my Asana goals). She even put her hands on my hips to square them off when they were clearly in alignment with one another 🤦🏻‍♀️ And when my hip didn’t drop (because it had nowhere to go), she pushed harder. Sigh.
I know everyone has different teaching styles and methods, and that’s AMAZING!!! That’s how we find our tribe and find what works/doesn’t work for us... but looking at the height of my foot instead of the alignment of my hips to try to determine if I’m “properly” doing the asana is...is...something I don’t have words for. As yoga teachers, we ALL need help... so keep up with your con-ed, listen to your students, talk with other teachers, support your own practice!

One of my favorite arm balances! I still remember the day I was (finally!!) able to keep my chin off the floor! Talk about feeling STRONG!
I love my practice. It brings me back home. It allows me to be free. It lets me know that I will be okay, that EVERYTHING is temporary, and forces me to appreciate this life, this day, this second 💜

Do you Point, Flex, or Floint? A floint is a point with the toes spread and flexed back... like pressing a gas pedal. This engages the muscles in both the front and back of the leg. It's my go-to. But sometimes i love me some flexion like in this calf stretch. How do you hold your feet during practice?? #floint

Playing around with my handstand at the beach today. I’m starting to get a better feel of shifting my weight and stacking my hips over my shoulders and wrist. Some days are better than others and I’m constantly making little adjustments to see what works and feels good for my body. 〰️

Anytime I can get upside down and practice splits is a good one. This is probably one of my most posted standing poses. I 💗 it that much. I practice it daily. It makes me feel graceful even if I am feeling wobbly. I just focus on how long and strong I feel in the moment bringing calmness to my wobble and then reach those toes as high to the sky as I can. This is my less flexy side but more stable side lately. The other side easily goes into an oversplit and makes me feel like I will somersault over. Still working daily on balancing when some days I am so clumsy on two feet this can be a bigger challenge 😝.
