The world began to come into view as Jinx faded back to consciousness. Her eyes adjusted to the dim light and she was finally able to focus on her surrounding. The young ex-villainess tensed when she noticed the hero holding her. His eyes were the loveliest color of gorgeous, and his hair was the orangest shade of sheer perfection.
“What…what happened?” Jinx croaked.
“You fainted…right into my arms. You know, if you wanted to get my attention you didn’t have to go to such extremes.”
“Whatever,” she growled, lifting herself of the bed she had been resting in. The scene around her shifted while her vision blurred once again.
“Whoa,” Kid Flash lurched forward and wrapped his arm gently around her waist. “Careful, Lucky. You took quite a hit back there. You should rest.”
Worry lines formed around his thin lips as he remembered how his friend-and secret crush-had been knocked unconscious during the fight with Brother Blood and his band of misfit villains. Thankfully that battle was finally over. But there was still a bunch of unexperienced heroes that had been injured during the fight, and though Jinx had been experienced in battle, she didn’t know what her ex-teammates were capable of.
“Don’t fuss over me, Kid,” she squirmed away from his hold. “Aren’t there some heroes that need help?”
“You are a hero, Jinx,” Kid Flash answered. “And it’s my job to take care of you. So, what do ya need? Water? Food? Pillow fluffed?”
As he concluded his list of suggestions, he had already finished each one. Jinx made a disgusted face, though she couldn’t help but enjoy the attention she was receiving from the admittedly handsome boy.
“I’m fine, Wally,” she smiled, eyes softening just a little.
“Great,” He beamed. “You know, you nearly gave me a heart attack.”
“I’m sorry,” she muttered. “I should’ve been more careful…”
Kid Flash sat on the bed beside her.
“Hey,” he said, getting her to look him in the eyes. “I’m the one that should’ve had your back. Before you joined us…I made you a promise. And I broke it.”
“Wally,” Jinx frowned. “You did have my back. You’re taking care of me now.”
She hesitated, but eventually leaned forward. Her lips gently pressed against his cheek.
