Please tell me I’m not alone in the childcare quagmire? This is absolutely not a dig at the brilliant men and women who look after our children (shout out to Haima 👋🏻, my youngest’s key worker). Nor is this an attempt to reduce their pay in any way. But we have the second highest childcare in Europe after Switzerland - where they earn more dosh, so really we’re at the bottom of the affordable childcare food chain. Added to that, a report has just been issued by the Institute of Public Policy Research (IPPR) confirming that 40% of mothers who are not currently employed said childcare is a key barrier to getting a job. Today we have Rachel, the founder of @korukids_london here 👇🏻 to field any questions and frustrations you might have in this area. On one side she’s fighting for a better-funded childcare system in the U.K. and on the other she’s trying to pioneer more affordable flexible childcare. Again, there are no jazz hands answers at the ready but anything you mention below will be replied to by Rachel and taken into account (anonymously) for our meeting to give evidence on maternity discrimination at the Welsh Assembly on May 3. If anything, it’s a chance to get it off your chest and for us to feed that back to the system #affordablechildcare #support #flexiblechildcare #motherpukka

To all those busy parents out there, why not get an additional pair of hands to give yourself some "me" time.

I’m working tomorrow so time to get my uniform ready! I love wearing my Helpful Nanny uniform it makes me feel professional and if I’m arriving at someone’s house for the first time it makes me instantly recognisable😊 #thehelpfulnanny#professionalnanny#i’mreadyforwork#gettingbacktowork#flexibleworkingmum#flexiblechildcare#flexiblenanny

The dream - coffee, cake, wi-fi, and a baby sleeping long enough to get some stuff done. It doesn’t all come together often though, which is why I’m working on launching Desks and Daycare in Cornwall - a co-working space with childcare onsite. Progress is a bit slower than I’d like, mainly while I try to get the childcare side of things just right. But I had a really positive meeting this morning about possible funding and support that might be available to help me get it all off the ground, so things are moving forward. Always keen to hear from people who would be interested in using the space, or might like to get involved in some way. #desksanddaycare #gettingshitdone #childfriendlyworking #flexibleworking #flexiblechildcare #workthatworks #radicalchildcare #freelanceparents #startupcommunity #coworkingcornwall #diftk #cornwallbusiness

We loved reading all your comments on Mother Pukka’s post about what you’d do with a bit of time to yourself!💖💆🏼‍♀️

AD | I thought it was a bad idea when Ari Last, the founder of @bubblebabysittingapp met me two years ago to discuss his plans. I made all the right noises because he is such a lovely man but I thought, “not going to leave my kids with some stranger off an app sunshine” 🌞🧐 And I don’t leave my kids with some stranger but I do use the app. (For transparency not funded by them; it’s on our dollar). This little life barnacle has been attached - physically, mentally and emotionally - for 10 months now. There is no respite and, yet, after a few work blunders over the last few weeks where I’ve been trying to ‘do it all’ (not ‘have it all’; gave up on that when I found a wasabi pea in my bra), I realised I needed some childcare. So every week for six hours Dee, a former midwife comes by to play with Evie upstairs while I focus on life-min, penning words and trying to to get a job in broadcasting 🎤 downstairs. I can hear Evie snuffling and gurgling with Dee, while nailing The List and popping in with the 🍈🍈 when 👶🏻 needs a go. Those six hours are entirely flexible, it costs £60 a week/ £10 an hour and I’m able to get shit done. ‘Babysitting’ doesn’t have to mean escape, it can simply mean focused sock drawer/work/read a magazine time. And after 10 months of feeling like a maternal bluebottle fly, those 6 hours feel like the equivalent of a week in The Maldives #flexiblechildcare #bubblebabysitting

The fabulous team at @mushmums have got a guide up on '7 things not to do to your babysitter' a great read! Check it out via the link in our bio, then check out our Q+A with co founder Katie Massie-Taylor over on the bubble blog 📚

The love of a father is one of life's greatest masterpieces.
Every day we see children skipping/scooter/buggying into Third Door with big cheesy grins on their faces as their dads drop them off into the nursery before going upstairs to work or heading off to a meeting. Who knows what those extra few minutes spent like those commuting together to work/child care can translate into in both the the father and the child's hearts and minds?
See next post to discuss what is standing in the way of more quality time with dads and their children 👉. #father #fatherandson #fatherhoodrocks #family #childcare #childdevelopment

Thanks to the wonderful @amyrozelmartin and @impacthubbrum we are meeting up. Like-minded #radicalchildcare providers who seek to provide an environment in which both children and parents can flourish.
It's not an easy model to run. The flexibility required when it comes to providing consistent quality care is challenging to achieve. With eachother to learn from we can make progress happen.

Today was a pretty nice day. We welcomed existing parents & lots of new faces to The Farm today. Cake was scoffed, tea was supped. Here’s to the next, hopefully al fresco, meet up.
