On Sunday I'm running Bristol half marathon, one of my favourite races.

Both of the previous times I've run it I've come away with a shiny new PB, especially last year when I was full of a cough and cold but still came really close to sub 1hr30.

This year will be different. I'm still working to get back into PB shape so this time it will be a more tactical training run to help me build on the work I'm doing with @runsimonrun1st

I see a lot of people say you HAVE to do a certain exercise in order to gain strength, size etc. You should always train smart and maximise efficiency 💭

I’ve trained in recreational gyms where people will force barbell squats on to themselves (or others) when they’re clearly not ready for it 🙈
•
Goblet Squats are simple. I’ll always start clients on them and assess their form, mechanics and discrepancies. If they can’t master a Goblet Squat, I won’t progress them to more advanced squat variations. It’d be careless to throw someone into a Barbell Squat on the basis that you think it’s a more demanding/rewarding lift 🤦🏻‍♂️

Nail the basics before you consider progression. There is no time-scale when it comes to training. There’s no holy grail of training programmes. If you feel the most benefit doing Goblet Squats, do them. If you don’t want to squat, don’t. Your training is most efficient when you can sustain it, feel your way through it, and most importantly enjoy it 🙌🏻

✨ BLACKBERRY NICE CREAM (recipe below!) ✨ it’s been such a long and eventful week and the fact that it isn’t even over yet is giving me THE FEAR 🙅🏼‍♀️ although I distinctly remember feeling this way last Thursday (see last Thursday’s caption for reference ✌🏻) and I managed to get through that week so fingers crossed this one goes the same way 💪🏻wanna know what I did do this week though, SUBMITTED MY MASTERS THESIS which means a year of suffering (at least in a university-based sense) is almost over 🙏🏻 praise be!! 🍌 BLACKBERRY NICE CREAM RECIPE >> 3 small bananas (peeled, chopped and frozen), 1/4 cup frozen blackberries, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, pinch salt + splash almond milk ~ blended until creamy and topped with @meridianfoods peanut butter + granola

TRX pull ups are a good way to work up strength & technique if you're not yet able to do a full bodyweight pull up

The further under the TRX you are, the harder it is.. so you can start more upright & slowly progress to getting your body right under! (See my different positions in the video) .

Notice how my toes lift up off the ground and just my heels are digging in to the floor- this is to make sure it's purely my upper body pulling me into the TRX and not my legs, by lifting your toes up slightly you're forcing your body to become a dead weight
.

Pull in & squeeze, and then extend your arms back out slower for the burn
.
.
I always find my abs work with this exercise too 💪🏽 BONUS!
