• I married adventure / a memoir •
I joined Emirates on a whim because my best friend Neil had just joined. I made the interview and then passed all of Emirates' criteria. Before I knew it, I was moving to Dubai. I had no idea what Dubai was going to be like. I arrived in the scorching heat of June, greeted by skyscrapers that mocked those of the rest of the world. Everything glittered, dazzled and almost everything was gold plated. Supercars are as common as the Toyota Camry. In Dubai, there is never nothing to do.
Still, I felt so lonely. I cried to my mum that I couldn't bear being away from my close knit family. She told me she'd pay for my ticket home that week ( love you mum ) But, something in me told me to stick it out. And boy, did I create a new meaning to sticking it out. Last month marked 5 years with The Best Airline in the World ❤ I have been blessed with traveling to 65 countries and over 100 major cities. I've made wonderful life long friends. I have immersed myself in various cultures. Picked up random foreign phrases. Made sure I did all the crazy adventure sports that each city offered. Ate at the hippest places on layovers with my crew. In all the vibrant cities, I danced the night away and crawled into bed as the buffet breakfast was underway. I conquered the hotel maps and never once got lost. I went from pushing carts in economy class to serving caviar in first class. I explored cities by instinct, not just by must dos. I collectively travelled over 500,000 kms just to be with the man that I love. You've seen my journey, it's basically all documented in this page. It's never the right time but it is my time. I'm hanging up my wings for now. Thank you Emirates for these wonderful years . I am so blessed and I am so grateful. With an open heart, I'm finally brave enough to create a new identity for myself. Watch this space ! I'm coming for everything they said I couldn't have!
Welcome me home, Melbourne. Coming for you, Seattle! See you soon, Dubai.
