About to make my last Postpartum delivery! Cannot wait to see that sweet baby and mama again! Also LOVING the new labels for Warren’s Post bone broth! 🙌🏼 @warrenspost ...already dreaming about prepping for my own postpartum! Totally looking forward to those first 40 days of sacred self-care and baby bonding! It goes by faster and faster with each baby, so by the 3rd, I know better than to blink 😭❤️✨ #postpartum #first40days

“For your baby, you are everything: his provider of food and warmth and protection, his teacher of sleep and settling. You are his anchor in this rollicking sea of stimulation outside of the womb and his buffer from it, too: you’re his very source of life. You are two people now, but for a few precious weeks that will never come again, you and he are in many ways still one.” // Heng Ou, The First 40 Days

Poor air quality = cupping to the rescue🌟

3 days postpartum text from a placenta client: “Everything’s great! I’ve been taking the pills and I feel really good! So happy I did this so thank you :) my milk came in today so that’s good news too 👍🏼👏🏼”

With so much focus on how to birth, making a plan for the post natal phase is often overlooked in westernised societies. For the most part women are encouraged to bounce back, make friends, join groups. Whilst all these things are important it’s so important women prioritise resting, support their nutrition and have a good support team in place from friends family and professionals. We cover this on our birth prep programme with our facilitator and Doula Jo @_jojodoula We want our mothers-to-be to feel assured by the plan they have made for this intense and incredible weeks and months post birth!

A few nights ago I dreamt that I was bleeding, below. When I woke up I knew exactly what it reminded me of. The morning before my little boy was born, when I was lying in bed and felt a rush—and it was red.
.
.
As many of you know, my first birth—my little girl back in 2017–went viral when the video was watched by 80,000 people on Facebook in 48 hours. That birth was ‘perfect’ in my eyes, full of laughter, walks on the beach, chai tea and a midwife who sat, silently, in a corner and let nature happen.
.
.
For the past six month, whenever people ask me about my second birth—my little Zephyr—I’ve replied as if they were similar experiences. Which, in a way, they were because once again I delivered without pain relief and without any fear.
.
.
However there’s part of the story I haven’t been listening to. It’s the reason I feel a dark fog when I stand on one spot in my en-suite bathroom—exactly where I was standing when I realised something was wrong.
.
.
It’s the reason I wish I could go back to those first 24-hours in the hospital, postpartum, and be still and quiet with my newborn instead of acting like a hero.
.
.
It’s the reason I can’t be physically open in a way I used to love. My body knows my secret. My sex drive reflects it. And, my dreams remind me.
.
.
On a level, I am still punishing myself for not having the ‘perfect’ birth this time. I was peaceful. I was fearless. But it took every ounce of inner strength and every emotional reserve I had. And, I still feel on some level like I wasn’t enough. For all of us.
.
.
When people ask if I’d like another baby, I reply with: ‘I don’t want that to be the last time I give birth.’ I find myself distracted by thoughts of a do-over, instead of adoring the healthy, happy babies I delivered, graciously in adversity.
.
.
Am I erasing the part of my birth story that I should be the most amazed by? .
.
I know there are mamas on here who have experienced a ‘birth twist’ of some kind. I’d love to hear how you started to heal and forgive… 💖

We haven’t left the house much in the past few weeks (#first40days) except for a few quick trips to get coffee. Because sometime you just need a self care break and coffee is one of my favorite activities. ✨

Let’s shift our focus to the mother
🔺
The bearer of life
🔺
The birthing woman who brings a new soul into this world
🔺
She just completed the greatest accomplishment of her life, creating life. The focus should now be on keeping her fed with warm loving food and tended to in all areas so she feels held, heard and loved. If she receives this level of care, then she will be able to in turn give all her love to the baby.
🔺
Go watch the insta live I just did talking about what postnatal depletion is and how @droscarserrallach recommends we heal.

When you teach your clients how to bengkung belly bind and they freak it better than you 👀👸🏼 Wrapping the midsection is critical during the 6 week postpartum period. All the hormones that helped your body expand are still present and so at this time we use this to our benefit in assisting the midsection and correlated organs and naval center/chi/ solar plexus back into place. It alleviates lower back tension, is supportive for breastfeeding moms and most importantly prevents and corrects Diastisis recti 🤓😍👭 #bengkungwrap #first40days #sacredpostpartumrituals

I really love this advice for immidiate postpartum.
I know, it's seems like you're grounded for a couple weeks, but really, it's giving you permission to hang at home in your comfy jammies while adjusting to life with babe.
If you can swing a couple weeks of focusing on you and baby, do it!! #yegdoula #yegplacenta #placentayeg #placentaedmonton #edmontonencapsulation #supermommadoula #postpartumsupport #postpartumgoals #permissiontorelax #permissiontoheal #honouryourself #baby #newborncare #mothercare #pregnancy 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 #Repost @rebeccahomedoula (@get_repost)

I just watched a great interview with Lindsay McCoy on the fantastic Birth Healing Summit in which she talks about her 5-5-5 protocol for new mums, five days in bed, 5 days around the bed and 5 days near the bed. It’s so important to rest in those early days as you are healing. And then just keep it slow. Remember this 555 is the minimum, and it can be hard to let ourselves rest but six weeks is an ideal. Lindsay runs online exercise programs for new mums, and sounded really knowledgeable her website is onestrongmama.com. But what stuck me most was how beautiful she looked, how focused and patient she was, you can imagine she is an awesome mum, to her four children! You can tell that she is on top of her self care with exercise, diet, rest & purpose. I’ll be honest it’s inspiring. I think sometimes when you are a mum especially in the early days you look at yourself and think is this me now? the wobbly arms and double chins, weakness, general exhaustion and frumpiness because no clothes you like fit anymore! But it is not forever, taking it slow, building yourself up, one step at a time and making time for self care makes all the difference. You will get there. #42daysofselfcare #lindsaymccoy #onestrongmama #first40days #birthhealingsummit2018 #lynnschulte #selfcarematters #selfcare #postnatal #postnataldoula #postpartumbody #postpartum #postpartumfitness

Have you ever heard the saying “birth changes you?” Well, if you haven’t, let me tell you, birth CHANGES you. It doesn’t change you in the way being a mom changes your level of patience. It changes you in the amount of surrendering that is required to journey through birth.
🌱
Today is my sweet son’s second birthday and I am so grateful for his life and getting to be his mama. A friend looked at me this morning and said “happy birthing day!” It made my heart soften a bit because I’ve spent this week engulfed in my prenatal yoga teacher training learning how to teach moms to have the best functional birth— something I didn’t have. I had a beautifully successful birth, but it wasn’t functional and it left a deep scar that I have been unknowingly carrying around for two years. 🌱
Trauma and healing have a funny way of surfacing. Trauma tends to shut us off to physical parts of our body. Healing is like a single flower in the concrete parking lot of that trauma. Trauma manifests in fear. Healing is an invitation to laugh again. Trauma is painful and as can be healing, but healing brings life. 🌱
I choose LIFE. I choose to surrender to the pain instead of running from it. I choose to release the fear instead of treating it like a friend. I choose to let healing come and turn my concrete lot into a field of wildflowers.
🌱
Birth can be wonderful and it will change you. It can also be traumatic. If it was traumatic for you, don’t run from it. Don’t live in fear of another pregnancy. Don’t shut off to a healing that will change you more. Let me invite you to be free. If no one has ever said it to you..... birth changes you. 🌱
