@luciana_blanco414 Asked me on someone else’s post if Filipino Magick is similar to voodoo (Vodun). I felt the answer needed to be posted on my own space. My answer: No it is not similar to Vodun (I think that’s what you’re asking me). It is not a closed tradition that requires initiation. It’s more similar to paganism with a strong emphasis on ancestor veneration than anything. There are those who incorporate practices similar to hoodoo (Folk Catholic Magick). Anitos are the spirits of our ancestors who we go to first for guidance. The diwatas (word descended from the Hindu word devas) are gods / goddesses / and local spirits or fairies. Because of colonization and standardization of language these terms convey the same idea but regionally can mean different things (think of the word tree...everyone knows what a tree is but depending on where you grew up you might imagine an oak or a redwood tree when you see the word).
