I must confess...when I first moved to Mumbai, my interest in the Ganpati festival was mostly for the holidays. While people from world over come to Mumbai to witness the festival, back then Mr Hubby and I went for a small vacation out of Mumbai to holiday in peace. We did return while the festival was still on to catch up on the pandal hopping though.
However my actual connection with the festival hapenned on the Visarjan Day. What I witnessed then cannot be explained in words, but the emotions that flowed that day tied me in somewhat "Moh Moh ke dhaage" with Bappa and I cursed myself for having taken that holiday during the first 3 days of the festival.
However, Bappa is a sweetheart. He comes every year to bless us and let us enjoy the festivity. I make it a point to be in Mumbai during the festival and enjoy the celebrations.
But on the day of the Visarjan, somehow it feels as if a very dear friend is going away after an awesome rendezvous and the heart feels very sad. It is a very natural feeling then, to accompany Bappa's farewell safari and get super emotional...
Some pics from yesterday's Visarjan.
