This weekend in Beijing I went to an awesome photography exhibit, If Body Could Tell (身体的情绪), on the female body and female pleasure. This exhibit is the first solo showing of The Hot Pink project, which tells stories of sexuality, transgender issues, drag culture, BDSM culture, sex education, sexual experience and sexual stigma, among other gender-related content. Photographer Lyu Rui uses a black and white color scheme to explore and express the female form in an intimate and first person perspective. The stories and images in the exhibit were contributed by people from the US, China, and Thailand, among other places, creating a diverse array of experiences and artwork. This exhibit also includes a room with walls of mirrors, on which visitors are encouraged to write their own stories. People have already begun to share personal stories related to numerous issues and in a number of different languages. The Hot Pink Project hopes to create a dialogue among younger generations in Beijing around the expression and exploration of the body and bringing awareness to gender-related issues.
