Zabuton (JPY5k) steak sandwich, a cut from the Chuck Eye Roll. The wagyu beef is done katsu style — they’re made to order and fried on the spot, before spreading some tonkatsu-like brown sauce on it. While the meat was tender, I didn’t get the “wow” factor, especially at this price point.

Wasn’t sure if I would enjoy the tan-tan ramen (JPY850) that Nakiryu is famous for, but I was so wrong after a mouthful of the soup. The nutty and spicy soup was creamy and savoury, making it very likable. The noodles were cooked to a perfect al-dente; firm with a good bite. It definitely wow-ed me more than when I tried Tsuta!

My favorite piece from today’s lunch, the lightly torched Kinmedai from the 15 piece course (JPY10,800). Glad to have caught Ishiyama-san on his last day at Sushi-ya! He’ll be opening his own restaurant in the Ginza area sometime in June.

Self taught Chef Sam cooks out of his own kitchen where you can watch him prepare the food and the 9-course dinner ($80/pax, minimum 6 pax and recommended for >8 pax to enjoy the soup course) is set in his cozy dining room.

We had nothing but praises for the food, especially this Crayfish Omelette that was filled with lots of fresh, plump and sweet cray fish meat! The Chicken Curry was equally amazing, prepared without any curry powder/paste, but with a blend of ingredients such as garlic, lemongrass, ginger and galangal. Cooked in a ceramic pot, it allows a slow cook on the chicken to a tender finish. The Prawns were lip-smacking good, simply stir fried with rose wine that warranted indulging in the head for the sweet roe!

The Meringue dessert course of the Lunch/Pre-Theatre Menu ($58/4 courses or $68/5courses) may look very identical to the toast commonly found in our local coffee shops, but it definitely doesn’t taste the same. The toasted meringue was super airy and light, sandwiching the smooth and fragrant teh terik cream. I like how it wasn’t too sweet and was beaming with the tea flavor. It’s definitely a unique and well executed dessert that showcases the Singapore culture!

The Rice Cakes ($7) are one of the staples at @alittletashi and I highly encourage you to get them as your carbs. They are similar to radish cakes, but a lot smoother and softer, with its sides pan fried till crispy! There’s an array of sauces available ($5 each) and the Miso Cream was the ultimate crowd favorite. You can pair the sauces with anything on the menu, which makes each and every dining experience unique depending on how you pair them!
