Trio bonding update three:
After about 30 hours together, these guys were doing so amazingly well! I felt confident to increase their pen space a little bit more. But after a few hours, Panda and Winston ended up having a couple of fights and had to have a small time out away from each other. They still groomed each other a little bit afterwards, which leads me to think that their dispute was hierarchy related - but parts of the evening were definitely tense as all three need to start trusting each other again.
For their own safety, I used my two fences to make three small enclosures and penned them all separately next to each other overnight, so they can still touch, see and smell one another. Unfortunately I wasn't comfortable letting them have free reign of each other over night, or the 12 hours we'll be out of the house at work today.
This morning, I've swapped the bunnies around into different enclosures and letterboxes, to greater acclimate to each others scent.
I've also put sheets over the roof of my makeshift shanty town, ensuring that Panda doesn't get any ideas about jumping over the 4ft fence and in return, my cat doesn't jump in.
When I get home, I'll pop all three together in a smaller pen again and see how they get on. I can't tell if it's going to be a successful trio as of yet, but at the very least - I'm hoping for a pairing.
In conclusion, we have a long way to go yet, before putting anyone in Panda's 10ft by 8ft outside enclosure.
Have a good Monday guys 💗
