Congrats to @dominiqueansel for opening his first restaurant, @189bydominiqueansel ! Ever the fan of his bakery, Chef brings the same imagination and delicious style to his savory brunch menu. So damn delicious! Service is reminiscent of dim-sum, with menu items presented to you, table-side. If you want it, they serve it and mark a card. When you’re done, turn the card over and let the food coma begin lol. Pictured: the DKA (Dominique’s Kouign Amann), a buttery, sweet and flaky bit of amazing. One of my absolute favorite pastries. Followed by the crunchy, flavorful and unbelievably juicy fried chicken, served w a biscuit. The chicken was outstanding. It got even better when it sat in the infused-syrup (I couldn’t make out the infusion, but it was GOOD) of the next item, the fluffy and tasty hot cakes. Oh LORD, that was incredible. My favorite pairing of the day. Following that was the maple glazed pork shank, with citrus zest. Holy hell. The meat was incredibly tender, with little bits of crisp skin and pops of citrus. Fantastic. Moving from land to sea brings us to the DIY lobster roll. Served with buttered bread and in its own shell, this was a fun way to be as fancy or as sloppy as you wanna be (I made sure to wipe that damn shell clean of all the lobster goodness. Buttered rolls ftw!). Next up, fried oysters. Crunchy and delicious, with a slightly sweet oyster awaiting within. Topped with (I think) a horseradish aioli, fried garlic chips and a sliver of jalapeño. Finishing off the meal was a treat from Chef Ansel, himself: a bittersweet chocolate mousse, dusted with a little sea salt and, possibly, the tears of angels. This was SO DAMN DELICIOUS! Besides having a fantastic meal, the service was impeccable. All of the servers were so friendly and prompt, despite the busy opening. I even had a chance to meet and speak with Chef, who was so grateful to everyone for supporting him and his amazing food.
What a great meal. Congrats again, Chef. Thank you for coming to LA!
