I love this shot. It almost ended up in the deleted pile when I reviewed the originals from this session. It's slightly blurry and my hand is propped on the doorknob, drawing attention to the door. I just felt like it was a hot mess of focus. So I did send it to the recycle bin.
But then, I was showing my family the rejected pictures before I permanently deleted them and when this one came up, I said, "Wait, no. This one stays." My face isn't trying too hard (as my face often does 😂), that propped hand is an interesting line for the eye to travel, my whole body is shown, my stomach is on display and I love all of it. I'm glad I took a second look and I'm glad the beauty of this shot finally revealed itself to me.
How many of our glorious pictures have we deleted because of knee-jerk perceptions of flaws? How much of our beauty have we crumpled up and tossed because we were told by others it wasn't good enough? It's a sad thought and I hope we can all, every one of us, start to heal our self images and keep the pictures. Show them off, even!
Speaking of showing them off, (my segues are smooth as butter, y'all) the series this photo is a part of called Self: Love+Confidence+Portraits is up on my blog, so go look! The link is in my bio and I'm gorgeous, so you totally should. 😉
