When people come to me for coaching and say they want to lose fat. The first thing I ask them is, 'well what are you doing right now to lose fat?'. Most of the time answer is something along the lines of 'I tried X fad diet and X juice cleanse but they didn't work. I also do cardio 5x a week'

Now this isn't necessarily wrong, I know it's fairly hard to figure out what information and products are real and which is fake because let's be honest here. The fitness and especially supplement industry is somewhat shady and if you're just starting, it can be a real maze to get through..

Here's what you want to be doing to really lose fat:
👉 Dial in your nutrition. Be in a caloric deficit and eat adequate protein, eat mostly whole foods and all that good stuff.
👉 Strength train 2-5x a week.
👉 Sleep well and make sure your stress levels aren't through the roof.
👉Now if we nailed all of these things, we can look at how much cardio you should do.

SQUAT🍑PATROL!

I never ever really enjoyed doing squats. I mostly did them with dumbbells when I worked out at home, but then once I started hitting the gym regularly, I found other ways to do them. But I still never fell in love with them. But when I started doing them as a warm-up using the Smith Machine, THAT’S when I started finding my Squat-Groove🥰

Now they make a regular appearance almost every leg🦵🏼day, whether it’s Quad focus or Glute/Ham focus leg day.

It’s like sweet potato casserole without a full commitment! ☺️ Add these sweet potato rounds with marshmallows and pecans to your Thanksgiving spread [next week!!!] By @feelgoodfoodie ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
INGREDIENTS
1 large sweet potato, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch-thick rounds
Cooking spray
1 tablespoon maple syrup
Kosher salt
1 (10-oz.) bag marshmallows
¼ cup pecans, chopped
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Spray a large baking sheet with cooking spray. Add the sliced sweet potatoes, drizzle with maple syrup and season with kosher salt. Toss the sweet potatoes to make sure they are well coated with the maple syrup.
3. Arrange the sweet potatoes in an even layer. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the sweet potatoes are tender.
4. Top each sweet potato round with one marshmallow,and broil on high for 30-60 seconds, until the marshmallow puffs. Immediately sprinkle the chopped pecans on top and serve.

Now I have your attention, the reason that you might be experiencing huge energy slumps in the morning might be caused by what you're eating at breakfast!

If you're having a very carb/sugar heavy breakfast (which is what most people eat for breakfast) your body is going to have use a lot of energy to digest all of the food which leaves little energy left for other processes such as thinking and moving 😉

On the other hand if you're having a high protein low-ish carb breakfast you might experience more energy in the mornings!

BUT, if you’re working out first thing in the morning, having some fruit loops might be a good option. This is where context comes into play and where these infographics lack. I don’t want you to start to think that one is worse than the other. It ALL depends on context. That’s why I started The MazerFitness Podcast, to talk about all topics fitness related and apply a more nuanced approach to fitness, you can find the podcast everywhere podcast can be found! Just search for it :)

But as always, figure out what works for you and stick with it!!

🔱 But the thing is, too many people won’t even dare to start on their diet because of the misconception of the need to gobble down boring, dry clean foods just for the sake of losing body fat. ❌

🔱 In general, a caloric deficit is a caloric deficit. No matter what kind of foods make up the total calorie intake, as long as it’s in a deficit, your body had no choice but to burn your stored fat to be utilized as energy for the deficit gap of your energy output. 🔥
.
🔱 Eating clean even when you’re already on a caloric deficit is considered as a bonus to your fat loss goal, because at the same time you’re eating micronutrient dense food which in return helps in your body’s daily function and health. 👍🏻

🔱So back to the argument: Is eating clean compulsory for dieting down and losing fat? NOPE❌

🔱 But do I promote eating clean even you’re easily staying at deficit without clean foods? Hell yes✅

🔱 At the end of the day, it is all about sustainability. You can have million ways to achieve caloric deficit. Keto, low carb, iifym just to name a few.

You don’t need to figure out whether intermittent fasting, the ketogenic diet, or paleo is the ‘best’ diet for you; you need to get good at not overeating and consistently being in a calorie deficit for a prolonged period of time first.

You don’t need a cheat meal; you need to get good at prioritising nutrient-rich, protein-packed foods throughout the week and not eating like a four-year-old first.

You don’t need to add in cardio to your training plan; you need to lift weights and not be as weak as a four-year-old first.
.
You don’t need to worry about consuming too many fizzy drinks for fear of getting cancer from aspartame; you need to stop drinking twenty units of alcohol every weekend first.
.
You don’t need to introduce Tabata training to your plan; you need to stop sitting at your desk and on your sofa all day and night first.
.
You don’t need to add in twenty supplements to your meal plan; adding in at least 50g of protein into your diet should be first.

You don’t need to think about ‘getting back on it’; getting ‘on it’ in the first place would be a good start.

As a coach, the expectations I place on myself are leading by example and walking my talk. BUT, I want to be super honest with you all and share this....

I haven't been consistent with my nutrition lately 😞

Over the past 2 or so months, I've launched a whole new Program, changed my business model, been to several in-person events, travelled, got new clients, worked on growing my business and helping as many women as possible change their lives, and try to maintain and build a relationship, have somewhat of a social life (lezbereal I don't have one), keep up with my training, write a book (sssshhh) and be a human.

As such... I've put my own needs last.
.
The thing is... All of my "reasons" are legit. So it's easy to JUSTIFY to myself that it's OK to not put myself first.
.
I wanted to share this to be entirely transparent, but also to share that I am sick of my own shit. I'm sick of justifying to myself why this is OK, because quite frankly, it's just not.
.
So I'm calling it....
I'M TAKING BACK CONTROL!
Full stop. End of story.
.
I hired a new coach (because even coaches need coaches) and I was going to go about this process by myself.
.
But I got thinking....
If I'm sick of my own shit, you probably are too.

Justifying. Excuses. Putting everyone else first. Hating yourself. Not living up to your potential. Not being consistent. Being frustrated. The list goes on....
.
