Food Fact Friday!
Asparagus is a common food among body builders and physique athletes, but what are the health benefits? Asparagus is high in an antioxidant called glutathione. Glutathione is noted for its ability to travel through the body and collect reactive oxygen species (ROS) or oxidants that may cause damage to cells. When training hard you cause a lot of metabolic stress and muscle damage, which may be great for muscle growth. However, too much stress may be detrimental because it will inhibit recovery. Therefore, eating asparagus and supplementing with glutathione may be beneficial for recovery! In addition to that, it has also been shown to increase immune function, act as an anti-inflammatory, and be beneficial to the liver.

@ryanjterry is the current reigning Arnold Classic men’s physique champion. Ryan was @theaspi lab last week and one of the things that struck us most about Ryan was how impressive his quads are! They are more detailed than an anatomy chart. As seen in the picture the quads are made of 4 heads. In this picture you see the rectus femoris, the vastus medialis (the inner quads) and the vastus lateralis (the outer sweep). A quick tip from research is that positioning of the leg while performing leg extension can emphasize different portions of the quads. For example, the inner and outer quads are ideally targeted with the toes pointed inwards during leg extensions. Further, the middle of the quads (rectus femoris) is targeted to a greater extent with the toes pointed outwards.

Meghan has been following the ketogenic diet since August of last year and has seen amazing results. Yes, you read that right. As of this moment, I haven’t eaten for 53 days. There are many reasons why I chose to do this, which I will get into below, but the one thing I can say for sure is, the experience has not even come close to what I expected.

But first I must caution you not to try this at home. If you’re thinking of doing an extended fast PLEASE do your research first, and ease into it. You should also know that the way you break your fast is equally as important. Many P.O.W.s (prisoners of war) have died after returning from concentration camps because they ate too much food too quickly, so this is not something to be taken lightly.

Why I Started This Fast

To be totally honest, I’ve always wanted to embark on a “serious” fast. I had tried a 3-day and 7-day juice fast in the past, and although they were challenging, I felt I needed to go a little deeper. I’m also working on a CE documentary called Psyched Out that is about how everything we’re told about psychedelics may be wrong.

In the process of making this film I started exploring other ways to reach altered states of consciousness and fasting kept popping up, so I started interviewing people about fasting and the experiences they’d had, and found myself increasingly fascinated by the topic, not to mention all the religious references to fasting and experiences those seekers encountered while out in isolation on long fasting expeditions. Many people use these types of fasts as a healing mechanism but for me it was out of sheer curiosity. “Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. Vegan pizza with fake (bio) cheese. I gave this 'cheese' another go and it will be the last time. I just don't miss the texture of cheese enuf to eat this fake crap. It sticks to the roof of my mouth and tastes disgusting. Ill be having my homemade cashew cheese from now on. Much more flavour and is real food. The rest was delicious tho: zucchini, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, spinach, mushroom, olives and fresh garlic and parsley with nutritional yeast.

The upper traps do not only shrug the shoulders upwards, but also rotate the scapula. By starting with your arms about 30 degrees away from your sides you take advantage of upward rotation and elevation (upward shrugging). Using two compared to one trap-action causes more muscle engagement!

わたしはファスティング準備食に入ると普段から水分補給は1日4リットルくらいなのが、さらに増えるため、トイレに通う回数が格段に増えます。
排尿排便こそ、目に見える排毒。
