I had the sheer joy of spending the weekend away with Jon to celebrate our second anniversary (how has it gone so fast??).
I knew I wanted to use the weekend to unplug and realign with my year’s theme of abundance.
I feel like “unplug” has become a buzzword of sorts, but, dang, that was what I needed.
I’ve realized that my phone has become a huge disruptor in my wellbeing, and I challenged myself to stay off as much as possible.
No stories, no posting, no constant scrolling.
And there’s a real reason we check our phones 74 times a day (I found that fstat on the internet). Our brains are wired for a system of random rewards. We literally get addicted to the one time in 10 when we check our phone and there’s *finally* a notification. Just like a slot machine.
That addiction can also lead to depression (ding ding ding!).
It might also have something to do with the scientific finding that people would rather be electrically shocked than left alone with their thoughts.
If you’re like me and find yourself turning to your phone for comfort (i.e. distraction) from your own swirling thoughts, I encourage you to face those thoughts, reach out to a friend (even me) and spend time processing. You might be surprised what you find.
