A victim of Pompeii.
She was one of the 1,000 some bodies discovered since the 19th century excavation. Following the eruption of Vesuvius, a blast of ash and noxious gases followed and Pompeii and Herculaneum were soon destroyed and left with 8 ft of ash. Ironically, what destroyed the cities also preserved the cities as the layers of ash calcified.
I purposely left this picture unedited as although we are fascinated with the gift of archaeology and history wonder left to us, this is ultimately a woman running from terror and following natural instinct to protect herself by covering her face.
The picture comprises of history but also shows that no matter how evolved we believe we are, our instincts have not changed over time. #victimofpompeii #unedited #raw #human
