Treatment success story: this young, Team Canada Tap dancer injured her ankle after a summer full of dance intensive training in varied dance styles. When treatment was initiated, there was significant swelling and she relied on crutches and an air boot to move around. Acupuncture and kinesiotape are effective tools that I use to manage swelling. Once the swelling and pain reduced, I manipulated the tibio-fibular and ankle mortise joints and measured the depth of ankle flexion and it's progress post treatment. Now she is walking without her boot and crutches and is starting to return to dance class. Her focus now is rehabilitation and proprioception training. She was given instructions on when she is cleared for pointe and more advanced tap movements like wings and pick ups.

My client complained of back pain after prolonged durations sitting at his desk during work. He has tried to stretch and roll out but only seems to get a couple of mins of relief before returning to the dreaded niggle. This can be a result of restrictions in his myofascial lines. So today we went for something a bit more hardcore than your foam roller...

Soft tissue mobilisation technique - Using the dolphin IASTM Tool we targeted his superficial back, back functional and spiral line in a passive (isolation) and active (integration) manner.

To maximise the results we incorporating movement patterns of their respective fascial lines, in this case we used unilateral & bilateral standing good mornings.

As mentioned a few weeks ago: I believe all training, isolation or functional all have a time and place to be used. Of course if your goal is strictly body building then most of what you do will be isolation and if you're after athletic performance or moving well for day to day life then most would consist of functional. With that said keep one thing in mind, depending on your goals...the human body becomes stronger in the planes of motion it trains in; Wolff's and Davis's Law. This is why you might be able to deadlift 500 lbs yet one day you go down to lift a small child moving across the frontal plane and your throw your back out.
As said before, the combination of training styles is KEY to all around health, wellness and performance!

Its simple till you think about it. The "bear crawl" has gotten a lot of attention in the past couple years and for good reason. Its a great movement to demand contralateral patterning (just means a big X learn your fascial slings), that prepares the hips and shoulders in ranges demanded by most movement practices.
Also, #corestability.
That being said, I see a lot of coaches throwing it at people who aren't ready. There's a reason I made this video following the last two - they directly prepare your body to stabilize this event.
Lastly, I'm wildly discontent with my stability crawling. Master the basics, first.

🔈🆙Manual release of the lateral myofascial line (hamstring/ITB junction and peroneals/calf) can help decrease pain in the outer base of the ankle and foot! Similar to a rope that is tied tightly to a post, it will begin to wear and tear at that attachment. Give it some slack, and pressure will be alleviated at that attachment! Tag a friend who needs some myofascial treatment! .

This is an old school ViPR workout. That's a relative term because there's nothing old or outdated about even the most basic ViPR exercises. These are just exercises that I learned a few years ago. The surgeon that did my hip replacement told me that I would NEVER squat parallel to the floor again. Clearly, he was wrong. ViPR is a great mobility tool that was instrumental in my regaining the vast majority of my hip mobility while improving my overall mobility and strength. "Belly button to spine", a cue we here a lot of, while it can actually be true the issue is that it's being interrupted as suck that belly into the spine which in fact can create a "vacuum" affect...think body builders, in which case makes sense. But in all other cases that cue is meant to help stabilize the CORE, but in will in fact create less stability in the CORE. So, use the cue "brace the CORE" and tell clients to imagine being punched in the mid section and this will in fact create stability!

Remember, everyone interrupts things differently so is not about wrong or right, it's about making sure the end result is correct.

Reinforcing Ron's anterior and posterior oblique subsystems, which we found yesterday to be imbalanced via NKT testing. Creating some spinal waves by rolling some spiral facial lines down the wall(roughly).
It gets a bit lost in the video but I start on my hand, roll down the back of my arm, across my scapula, then follow the textbook baseline of the lat continuing over the spine and down around the opposite glute, upper vastus Lateralus and then finishing with vastus Medialis pressed against the wall and working my way back up the same path. The whole time I’m trying to keep the rest of my bod as far from the wall as I can so that I exaggerate the articulation as much as possible. Repeated over and over again alternating sides.
