Working at Trypoul Recording Studios today! An incredible experience. Can not begin to describe what it's like working here. A first time for me to mix a record on an SSL 4000 and i'm loving it. So much character when you drive it hard. And very precise when you need it to be.. Hope to do more projects here the coming months!
In a pure exercise in futility and after 2 years of research and soldering, just finished a replica of a legendary 1957 limiter most well known for its significant contribution to the Beatles sound. With 20 valves, 14 transformers and 100lbs its the largest audio peripheral ever built
#MixTipMonday The Waves PuigChild 670 is a favorite compressor plugin of mine. It sounds great on lots of things (including the mix bus!) but I might like it most on bass. If you drive the Input all the way and use a short attack/release and low threshold setting you get extra punch to the front end and new upper frequency content in the form of harmonic distortion. You don't have to do that much gain reduction to really alter the sound. This really helps your bass cut through on smaller speaker systems and earbuds. Try this method with any vintage gear modeling compressor plugins. Often they will have very musical distortions that happen when you drive the Input really hot.
