Good evening everybody! How has your week been? Where in the world are you? What’s it all about?
It had just gone nine o’ clock when I started writing this out, but I couldn’t for the life of me get a grip of where to start! It’s now 11:05 and I have travelled through London to get myself over to Bermondsey for a full day of rehearsing and preparing ourselvesfor tomorrow’s BBCR1 Live Lounge performance! ARGHH!
I’m always such a chilled performer.Don’t get me wrong, I get nerves, but they are more the excited kind of nerves that we rely on to do exciting things. But, there is something about the Live Lounge that makes me a little bit more nervous than usual. If I try to understand why this might be, I always end up at the same conclusion. When I was about nineteen I was lucky enough to be invited to play a Live Lounge session. Deep down I felt like I wasn’t quite ready for such a huge performance, but you don’t turn down the Live Lounge! Of course, I took the opportunity with both hands and ran with it. I have no way of measuring this but I am sure that it was the most nervous I have ever been before a performance in my life. Now, five years later, the lighting and layout of that room has not changed at all! So, every time I step foot in the lounge I am instantly transported back to that time in my life; a rabbit caught in the headlights, little baby Geoff quaking in his little boots.
At this point, I should say that since my first Live Lounge performance we have been back to do some of my favourite sessions to date. Performing covers is not that high up on my list of favourite things to do, BUT we always make sure we love the versions that we put together. Girls Just Want To Have Fun and I Try stand out as two of my favourites.
