Thanking the new PADI instructor, (congrats 🎉) @yogiwei__ for this suit which I won from her “Why do you free-dive” writing contest to which I answered:
Before being born into air, sound, and color — we all lived in our mother’s watery wombs for 9 months. (We knew water long before we knew what was on land.) For me, free diving is an instinctual need to go back to our mother’s womb. Our bodies remember water, we crave submersion because in a way, it is like going home — a metaphor for being born all over again.
The sea is a place of undiscovered wilderness, but ironically it provides quiet solitude; it provides peace.
It’s the only escape I have from human folly.
