Exit West, a powerful and brilliantly-written novel that follows Saeed and Nadia as they flee their home, an unnamed country going through a civil war, leaving everything and everyone behind. I found myself really rooting for Saeed and Nadia. I was left heartbroken with what could have been.
For people who appreciate learning and reading about the immigrant and refugee experience (like myself) this is a must read ~ 5⭐. Hamid adds a fictional touch by adding these highly guarded and high-risk doors that the charactors take when emigrating from their country. By passing through these doors, they are transported to a new place around the world where they are one among many migrants and they have a decision to make: either stay or keep moving. Going back is not an option - it's hardly ever an option even in real life.
I gotta say that I finally listened to this audiobook after seeing that @thestackspod discussed it on her podcast. Immediately after finishing it, I listened into the conversation. Thank you to @thestackspod for such a great recommendation and discussion! Will continue to listen 👌
