Deadlifts

📝Picking things up and putting them down is functional. It also gets you jacked. And helps rid your body of toxins.

☠️Here are some of the many variations we like to use. @healthy_baller This compilation starts with a kick stand, progresses to the back leg still being in contact with the ground in a sliding deadlift, and ends with a bunch of different trap bar variations.

Everyone knows that strength increases by more than muscle size, after a long-term strength training program. This effect is particularly marked after training with heavy loads, rather than light loads to failure.

However, there is still no widely-accepted reason for why this discrepancy occurs.
One measure of the ratio of strength-to-size is called "specific tension" and it refers to the maximum *involuntary* force that can be produced by a muscle, or a muscle fiber. It therefore takes into account changes in central factors, such as an improvement in coordination or an increase in neural drive.

Specific tension does increase after strength training, indicating that peripheral changes inside a muscle contribute to the greater gains in strength over size.
As this study shows, the most likely explanation for the change in specific tension is an increase in the number of lateral attachments between the muscle fiber and the extracellular matrix. ------------------- #sandcresearch #strengthandconditioning #strengthtraining #strength #sportsscience #sportscience #exercisescience #sciencetopractice #evidencebased #evidencebasedpractice #biomechanics #muscle #hypertrophy #maximumstrength #specifictension #powerlifting #powerlifter #lateralforcetransmission #ecm #extracellularmatrix #endomysium #costameres

Gained so much knowledge today at the #EvidenceBasedPractice Conference! The speakers were AMAZING and ALL of the presentations were innovative and creative! Can't go wrong with a building full of Nurse Executives, Leaders, & Clinicians!!!! I LOVE MY PROFESSION‼️💊💉📊

Great day, started with a sunrise on the bay, a ferry ride to the trolley and a walk up hill to study some Advanced Pathophysiology notes for my test. Arrived to school to a breakfast spread, celebrating #Nursepractitionerweek. Ended with complimentary blood pressure screening on campus just in time to spread awareness of the new BP guidelines. #healtpromotion #DNP #evidencebasedpractice #loseyourselfintheserviceofothers

The hex bar deadlift is a popular deadlift variation used by strength coaches most often when working with athletes.
Previous research has shown that it tends to allow heavier loads to be lifted by a more advantageous set of external moment arm lengths at the hip and knee, and shares the load more evenly between the lower body joints.

This study builds on previous research, showing that the hex bar also allows a faster movement velocity, power output, and a longer portion of the lift spent accelerating, adding to the reasons why it might be a good choice for athletes. ------------------- #movement #movewell #moveoften #exos #strengthandconditioning #strengthtraining #strength #sportsscience #sportscience #exercisescience #sciencetopractice #evidencebased #evidencebasedpractice #biomechanics #muscle #hypertrophy #deadlift #hexbar #hexbardeadlift #trapbar #trapbardeadlift #athletes

Wherever I go, I take my passion for developing, analysing, and interpreting healthcare data. It may appear easy, just a simple question: does the treatment work? However, it’s much more complicated than that.
.
It’s not about quoting a study from one university or another nor mentioning one or another article. The truth is that many things can blur the true value of a health treatment. Unfortunately, research in healthcare is currently flooded with poor quality studies with severe limitations to the practical value of their results.
.
Methodological and analytical knowledge is essential and also focus on results relevant to patients. Research and communication in healthcare must, above all other goals, serve to promote knowledge and improve healthcare.

The American Medical Association is blatantly ignoring evidence based research that points to APRNs and the vast strides they have made to provide primary care to all people. We are seeing a decrease in primary care providers especially in rural counties. Allowing APRNs to practice independently would progress primary care and prevention interventions to create a healthier society. This is evidence based. The AMA is ignoring proven statistics and data. Do you want a doctor who ignores science and uses their own opinion to treat you? No. Why are they doing this with APRNs? Working together to promote healthier outcomes in our nation is the goal of the @ananursingworld. Hoping to one day work with physicians to take care of every human life. Until the AMA comes to terms with the ever growing evidence that APRNs are part of the solution the AMA will be a huge part of pushing a health care system that works for the wealthy. This violates their code of ethics. #proudnurse #APRN #DNP #evidencebasedpractice

My new toy arrived!
.
Laser pen headband for oculomotor tracking exercises. I bought one after attended a lecture on neck pain last week with neck pain specialist @chrisworsfold .
"Studies show deficits in eye movement in patients with whiplash," from a 2016 systematic review of eye movements in patients with whiplash and associated disorders.
.

This 'laser and target' training is fun - not just for the cats! Furthermore, evidence suggests that proprioceptive and oculomotor control training reduces neck pain and disability.
.
They say 'neurons that fire together wire together' so when you consider how we are constantly moving the head to follow the gaze, it makes sense that the eyes and neck are linked. I'm familiar with concept of 'differentiation' of eye and neck movements from Feldenkrais and Hanna Somatics, which both make use of eye movements to give the eyes and neck the novel experience of doing different things and moving in opposing directions. Students are always super-surprised, even if they have no neck issues, at how the range of movement in the neck increases after doing these exercises.
.

I have a few issues around the neck myself so I'm excited to get going with the 'smooth pursuit' laser and target practice for precision in control training. I'll be sure to shut the cats out, though!

I typically keep a low profile and go about things without social media, but I think this story is worth sharing. After I graduated, I was looking for a place to start my business @themovementsystem (content coming soon). I first reached out to a few gyms I already knew. Upon asking for some flexibility in the rent payment structure (since as I would only be starting with a few clients) I was told “I run my business the way I want to run my business”. I respect that coming from a family that runs a small business, however I realized that we had very different goals/ideas. .
Thankfully, this allowed me to reach out elsewhere so I could make my business plan work and grow. After emailing/ calling/ visiting 25 different places, I finally met Shawn at @grandviewprofitness. Shawn runs his business differently. He offered me flexibility and opened doors for me to grow and I can’t thank him enough. .
Two months ago, I listened to a @dannylennon_sigmanutrition podcast where @ciaranfa discussed the great need for better research regarding Exercise for Cancer Patients/survivors. I reached out to Ciaron and Shawn and said I wanted to design a research study and community-based program to help this population. Since then, we have worked with the @herocancerhealth project and built a team. Shawn is donating a ton of resources and time to give us the opportunity to offer free individualized in-person training to cancer survivors as well as collect great data. Participants will be given pre and post-intervention DEXA scans, which will allow us to publish much needed research regarding the special exercise needs of this population. .
I want you guys to take away that when you are looking for someone to work with don’t just take what is in front of you, but rather do the work to reach out to different businesses and people and find someone who values what you value and can help you be successful. Furthermore, focusing on money doesn’t make you money. GPF has expanded beyond belief in less than a year by offering great service and value rather than focusing on making money. .
Lastly, if you know any cancer survivors less than 5 years post-diagnosis please reach out to me.

Great paper showing how pain science education in physiotherapy students can result in them making more appropriate recommendations for people with persistent pain.
Now the 64 million dollar question is how do we get this information into the university education system and how do I get it into the two universities that I'm involved with?

But really. I’m finding most everyone is just walking around pretending to know what they’re talking about. Information is ever changing as science grows.
