Good morning, Brooklyn! Ever wonder how some of Brooklyn's neighborhoods got their vibrant names? Some names seem pretty obvious, like Sunset Park which is named for the central green space. Bay Ridge was originally Yellow Hook however during the time of Yellow fever this name kept merchants away and business was declining so the town felt Bay Ridge was more welcoming. Carroll Gardens was named after Maryland's Charles Carrol, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and Coney Island got its name from the dutch word for rabbits, which were often seen running through the sand dunes "Conyne Eylant."
