On this date in 1982, Randy Rhoads, guitarist for Ozzy Osborne was killed in a small plane crash in Florida. He had been on a bit of a joy ride on the plane piloted by the band’s tour bus driver. When they buzzed the tour bus on one of their fly-bys, the wing clipped the bus causing the plane to spin and crash into a nearby home. This was such a needless tragedy (as they always are). Randy had enjoyed immense popularity as the guitarist for Quiet Riot who were huge in the California metal circuit. But his star never shined brighter than with his work he produced while with Ozzy. Still regarded as one of the top guitarists of all time, he was just beginning to realize his potential. We can only imagine what would have been.
This photo was taken during the Blizzard Of Ozz tour in July of 1981 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Such an amazing show that we will never forget. RIP Randy.
