This Just In: Stephanie Rickard, the attorney for 49ers’ LB Reuben Foster‘s girlfriend, said in a statement to the Sacramento Bee that she initially lied to police and informed them that Foster did not injure her during the incident that occurred at his home in Los Gatos back in February. “(Foster) did not strike her, injure her or threaten her,” said Rickard.
She says Foster tried to end the relationship with her, which led to the fight. “She was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her she would ‘trash his career,’” Rickard said.
According to Rickard, Foster’s girlfriend told local prosecutors that she wanted to recant but that the district attorney’s office filed charges anyway.
Foster is facing charges of domestic violence with an allegation that he inflicted great bodily injury, forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime, and possession of an assault weapon – all felonies. He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of large capacity weapon magazine. If convicted, he faces more than 11 years in prison.
It remains unclear what Foster’s next steps are, but the new evidence should result in all of his charges being dropped due to invalid information.
Foster, 24, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2017. He’s entering the second year of his 4-year/$9.03M contract and stands to make base salaries of $875K and $1.28M over the next two years of the agreement.
