Our very first @triedtestedloved book review!!If you love beauty #prettyiconic by @salihughesbeauty is definitely worth a read. I wasn't sure I was qualified to do a review but being a beauty, skincare and make up junkie I thought I should investigate. I know a little about the author, but not much, she is a British beauty journalist and considered to be an authority, which she clearly demonstrates in this book.
Initially I thought this was just a run down of some well known beauty products, but that was doing #prettyiconic a serous disservice. When I started reading it properly, I realised this is not a fluffy coffee table book, although the pictures and general visuals are amazing, but in fact a very cleverly organised reference document, covering not just beauty but history, fashion and commenting on social and cultural trends. It is so well thought out and easy to read, yet it could also double as a beauty encyclopaedia, or brand reference textbook. I hope that doesn't make it sound boring, it isn't one bit. The tone is very personal but there has clearly been loads of painstaking research and thought involved. First of all, I feel Sali has absolutely captured the key ICONS and found myself nodding my head and thinking "yes, I used that product "and "gosh, I remember when that came out" as well as "I had no idea about the story behind that " and "wow, NEVER heard of that." Some of these icons really did change the world of beauty, there is no doubt. And I like the fact that this book covers perfume, make up, bodycare, lip balms, shampoo, eyelash curlers, etc etc etc. It is thorough, engaging and fascinating. You don't have to be British to enjoy it as many of these products are global icons. I would encourage anyone who loves beauty, blogs or works in the industry to have a read, as Sali has picked brands many of us know and use, or those who have set trends and inspired others. She takes us into the story behind each product and how they affected her, which makes it a unique yet familiar reading experience. The word icon shouldn't be used lightly in my opinion, and Sali deserves real credit for this book. It is iconic for real. #beautyblogger #icons#books
