Deeply honored to serve in ministry with the most faithful, creative, and stand up social justice ministry in all the land, Micah 6:8! For the past two years, I've had the profound joy of serving alongside them on advocacy trips to DC, letter-writing campaigns, media messaging, lobby visits, litanies, accountability sessions, petitions, teach-ins, and so much more. I love each of you and all of you for your commitment to doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God! #Micah68 #SocialJusticeMinistry #EquitableDevelopment #Queens #JamaicaNY

VERY PROUD OF THE CHINATOWN COALITION WINS, for building a broad, persistent movement to demand respect for the community and demanding that the City implement the Chinatown-Lake Merritt Area Specific Plan goals. After half year of organizing, requests that the developers meet with the Community, mobilizing hundreds of residents to Commission and Council meetings and legal appeals...they announced this week that Woods Partners would make new commitments: reduced rents for community artists and businesses for street level retail to maintain community character and support local businesses, a $675K contribution to a nearby affordable housing project providing 64 units, apprenticeships for local residents. EBX article gives good background:

The HIV/AIDS pandemic still has devastating effects in Zambia. Over 11% of children under 18 have lost one or both parents to this disease. Habitat for Humanity works to empower families affected by HIV/AIDS, especially women and children, through shelter, advocacy, education, inheritance planning, and access to land rights.

I’m so excited for the projects going on in the Bronx right now, including our submission for a pulse-responsive light installation as part of Sube el Rio (River Rising) at Starlight Park. (My 3 min of fame above). But this is just a small piece —there is also a pop up cafe that serves coffee designed to open dialogue about race @themixpopup, the Bronx’s first independent bookstore will open soon, amazing documentaries and panels are being hosted at @bronxdocumentarycenter and there is a fantastic photo exhibit called ‘Black Documents’ @bronxmuseum @afhbronx. These are just a few of many projects and changes that are happening and Im sure there’s also tons more I don’t know about. But not all the changes are so positive, or inclusive. I believe that as the borough continues to grow and change there is the possibility of bringing everyone up together, especially longtime majority black and Hispanic residents who have been subject to years of policies and infrastructure in which they had no voice and which were often targeted to discriminate against them. If gentrification is going to happen here (and it is inevitable) the people that have lived here for decades should have a say in shaping that. I was born in this borough and though I mostly grew up elsewhere it will always have an important place in my heart. I hope to have the opportunity to stand alongside its residents and participate in making the Bronx beautiful, or rather capturing the beauty and strength that has been here for years <photo of starlight park not my own> #starlightpark #bronxriverartcenter #repost #gentrification #bronx #bronxisbeautiful #ilovethebronx #publicart #equitabledevelopment

It’s #InternationalWidowsDay. For women in many countries the loss of a husband means not just losing a loved one, but losing their home and social status. Rarely aware of their land rights, these women can become victims of property grabbing from male relatives, leaving themselves and their children vulnerable and without security.
Thanks to the generosity of #IrishAid, #ElectricAid, and our supporters, Habitat for Humanity works to empower widows in Zambia through housing, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and gender-based violence support services, participation in advocacy, and training in land rights and inheritance planning.
Please donate today to ensure equitable development and human rights for vulnerable women and children in Zambia:http://bit.ly/2rWU8Nq

Powerful things happen when we pressure our elected officials to invest in the families they serve. Columbus may have a longer fight in store before we can pass a living wage for our city but that does not mean we can't have a City Hall that prioritizes fair & equal pay in all aspects of policy-making. 💪 #yeswecancolumbus #fairpay #fairwages #communityleadership #equitabledevelopment #fightfor15 #lifeincbus #asseenincolumbus #614forall
