DEADLIFTS 101 🍑💦☺️

In case you missed my #GetStrongWithGina segment on @popsugarfitness last week, here’s a crash course on deadlifts, one of the most effective lower body exercises and one of my personal favorite movements. This compound exercise targets it all: glutes, lower back, hamstrings, and even your core. I know the barbell may be intimidating if you’re just starting out, but don’t be spooked by it! This video will give you some how-to tips, how-not-to tips, and a few different variations, so by the time you go into the gym, you’ll be a deadlift pro.

Most importantly, USE WEIGHTS! You won’t get anywhere if you just use the barbell by itself or if you just use your body weight. You might be surprised at how heavy you can lift. Your lower body was designed to lift up heavy things. And it feels so badass to hit those big numbers.

Controlled violence. Throws are something that I’ve come to appreciate for all client bases, always a staple for athletes but something that also be incorporated for GP. A few good reasons: at some point everyone will need to utilize max power, utilizing power will intrinsically teach your clients a lot about effort, natural scaling (as hard as you are able), great ramp-up for SNS pre-training. I perform these throws with a focus on thoracic and pelvic stabilization and pick a ball that I can throw with max velocity (10lbs here), bigger isn’t better with these.
Also, first day in months of squatting without groin/adductor issues. Feels good to be feeling good again.
