When it comes to hip thrusts theres two schools of thought. Light weights, controlled, muscle mind connection and higher reps vs heavier weights, fewer reps, controlled and mind muscle connection (although poor technique can be seen at the heavier weights and this may be lost). •

I think there’s a place for both. And both rep ranges will help you achieve a glorious rump. •

My coach @willz_prime from @adonisathleticscastlehill structures my reps like this: 4, 2,1,10 (preceding cycles were 6,4,2,12 and 8,6,4,15).


Weights go up until the last set where they drop down. •

What you’ll find is that on that last set the weight will basically fly up. Don’t let my face fool you, 92.5 for 10 felt like a breeze and over the next four weeks that weight will continue to increase.


This same rep range can be done with your squats, deadlifts, press, cleans, snatches etc. •

When I first started training, like most people, I started with 5x5. But I plateaued for a long time. It wasn’t until I started with @adonisathleticscastlehill where I got to really push myself and see what my body is capable of. A lot of training comes back to mentality and often you think you aren’t capable of something so you don’t try. •

Even if you’ve trained solo or followed the same structure for years, mix it up, get a coach, try a different rep range. •

What my Week 1 looks like.

Getting a little excited to start flexible dieting again in my off season.

Although I’ve eaten flexibly in the past successfully, I don’t feel I’m mentally ready or strong enough again just yet to be able to do it on my own. I’ll be working with @equalution for the next 8 weeks in their challenge with a set meal plan but also a macro split per meal and day.

Coming into the silly season and having a number of events coming up I like knowing I can mix it up on those days where I won’t be able to follow my plan yet still hit my macros for the day.

I don’t think this will be easy but I believe it will help me get back into a healthy mindset instead of fearing certain foods.

This week's: UNDERSTANDING ENERGY INTAKE comparison 👉🏼 Paleo Cookie VS Subway. Firstly this post: ❌Is NOT to say that neither should be chosen over the other ❌It is NOT to say that the nutrient density of both the choices are EXACTLY the same ❌It is NOT to say that either will cause adverse effects on the body OR directly lead to fat gain. The bottom line is: ✅UNDERSTAND ENERGY INTAKE. When we purchased the paleo cookie the jar advertised ➖No refined sugar ➖Raw all natural ingredients ➖Paleo ➖Low Carb ➖Dairy Free... ⚠️ For a lot of people aiming to be healthy this would justify the choice to opt for the paleo Cookie.. But did you consider the calorie density⁉️ Some people select the food they eat based on a perception of healthy or unhealthy with little regard for caloric value. Eg the current ‘raw treat’ craze spin off of our favourite sweets. Eating well for health is a two part system in that quality and quantity go hand in hand but the art of weight loss will always boil down to calories in vs calories out. This post is not to compare nutrient density of these two choices but to demonstrate that no matter how 'healthy' you think something is your body will recognize and clock its caloric value. This is important as if you want to lose weight you need to calorically be consuming less energy than expenditure.. If you're trying to lose weight it's necessary to be conscious of caloric intake given it is possible to over eat in clean treats just as it is possible to over eat on cakes and slices IN FACT calorically most 'clean treats' are in most cases higher. Be conscious and aware of the caloric and macronutrient value of food. When eating foods of high caloric density you should be aware of what you've had and what you're going to have for the rest of the day. Calories matter and should be regarded in a context of what your whole diet especially when aiming to lose weight. What ever your preference don't be clouded by superfoods ingredients & 'free from' claims, you may think you're doing your body wonders but your body won't disregard the caloric value 📧info@equalution.com

It’s not realistic to be comp lean all year round and I knew that going into my first comp. Having lost such a substantial amount of weight on my journey, when looking for a coach to prep for my first comp, my relationship with food and caloric intake was paramount. Hearing horror stories of women eating less than 1000cals during peak week scared the shit out of me so I spoke to a few coaches before deciding to work with @jake_abel_official

Jake’s plans are rigid but packed with good, nutritious, whole foods so I enjoyed every minute of my prep.

Let’s talk post comp: Jake took me through a reverse diet, bringing my cals back up with minimal weight gain. 8 weeks post comp I’m 4kg up from comp. Seeing yourself post comp with a bit of “fluff” back is hard. Im sure everyone who has competed can relate to feeling “fat” 😂 the way we look at our bodies is definitely skewed! Gaining back control of my thoughts was a challenge but I’m feeling good, happy, healthy and balanced. I can’t stress enough how important reversing is post comp!! Mentally post comp has been more challenging than comp prep was for me.

So what’s next for me? In the small interim between now and prepping for Season B next year with Jake, I’ll be joining the team at @equalution to try a bit of flexible dieting in my off season.

Whilst comp prep is enjoyable for me, I love a variety of foods (and the odd glass of wine or 2 🙊) and I believe it is important to have balance in this sport so I can comfortably socialise and track my intake whilst enjoying a few naughty treats and not blowing out.
