Queen Amidala has a handmaiden finally! I can honestly see why these play line Amidala dolls flopped, they’re not particularly versatile as under this hooded mask she has the Naboo royal make-up on. Also the infamous balloon head cracks me up. The hooded mask gimmick is amusing, but I personally would have preferred the reverse, take off the mask to reveal that Padmé was the Queen all along. The clothes aren’t bad either, but the sleeves are a hassle to get over her hands which would have hindered the easy on and off required for doll dress ups back in the day. The cloak, however, makes this doll a versatile handmaiden! Just put a grey dress on under it and you’ve got a handmaiden to match Queen Amidala’s grey kimono look. It’s not a terrible doll by any means, just Hasbro really missed the mark on the range and it’s sad (i.e. infuriating) that they used this failure as an excuse to delay another attempt at marketing Star Wars to girls until the recent Forces of Destiny range.
