Still Star-crossed is a period drama produced by Shonda Rhimes that picks up where Romeo and Juliet leaves off (Their marriage and demise is the first episode). the show follows the lives of the families, the long feuding Montague and Capulets, as they continue to find themselves entangled through tragedy, palace intrigue, and even more ill fated romances. If you haven't heard about this series, ABC has done little to no promotion of it and had given it a Monday 10 pm slot (which is usually reserve for more risqué shows, it seems odd to put 14 yrs+ show). This seems like a trend with network and diverse shows: They create them, give them little to no promotion and then cancel them 😟 (Emerald City, Underground, Sweet vicious, East Los high, American crime, etc) If ABC really wanted it to take off, they would have leave it for the fall season, and had it sandwiched between Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder.
Still star-crossed has women of color in lead roles, a diverse cast in both positions of power and of servants (which is historically accurate) portraying fleshed out characters, fun storylines, romance, plenty of fighting scenes, political plots, brillant cinematography, beautiful costumes, antagonists with background and reasoning, and based on a novel.
If this seems like a show that interests you, check it out at this time it has 3 episodes out already. ABC has decided to move it to Saturdays at 10pm starting July 8. Right now, it looks like it's not going to get a second season.
