This portrait of young Simon J. Packe-Drury-Lowe by painter Henry Lamb (1883-1960) hangs in the Inner Hall among other family portraits. The richly coloured marbled plaster of the room gives it a particular elegance while a certain air of the Art Deco age diffuses from the surrounding 1920s and 1930s paintings.

Love this Vintage Linen Hand Stitched Tablecloth. The person who made it has hand sewn their name and the date into this piece. 😁😁😘
I wonder what the story behind this beautiful cloth is? ... Gift? For herself ? 🤔🤔😄 😍😍😍😍 #comingsoon #newstyle #newstock #etsyshop #vintageshop #vintagestyle #handembroidery #vintagetablecloth #lovethis #finerdetails #retrochic #1990s #handmadeisbetter #nostalgia #perfectgift #specialgift #countryinteriors #cottageinteriors #prettyinteriors #vintagelover #tablecloth #vintagelinen #forsale #countrykitchen #handsewn #frenchcountry #englishcountryhouse #manse #farmhousevintage #farmhousestyle

Puffy. Sleeves and bed. I can’t quite embrace ‘big knits’. It’s the simplicity and finality of them. You can’t shove a bustier or jacket over them. They’re immovable objects. They are the marshmallows of clothing and I’m more of a Pic ‘n Mix girl. Happy Monday 💫. Had a bit of a slow start this morning due to the effects of celebrating Mr VL's birthday on Saturday at little too hard😜🤕. So I spent some time in my 'girl cave' going through my candle collection, as you do!🙄. I would like to confirm that the glass with the rolled up music paper was not my glass 🍹from Saturday night😝. Have a lovely evening 🙂💫

#OTD in 1788 the poet Lord Byron was born. He was described by Lady Caroline Lamb, novelist, wife of Lord Melbourne and Brocket Hall resident, as “mad, bad and dangerous to know” although this did not prevent her from pursuing him. Their much publicised affair lasted for 6 months. In later life they were known to write poems in the style of each other, about each other and even embed messages to one another in their verse.
Lady Caroline Lamb is said to have fallen from her horse at the shock of seeing Lord Bryon’s funeral cortege passing the Brocket Estate en-route to Nottinghamshire. By all accounts she had not known
of his death until that moment.
In the Dining Room at Brocket Hall hangs portraits of Lord Byron and Lady Caroline Lamb on opposite walls facing each other.
