@8newsnow ran a story today about the @themiragelv dolphin habitat in #LasVegas. It's supposedly American Humane Certified? A dolphin exhibit in the middle of the desert, where they are far away from their natural habitat, living in a concrete box, doesn't seem like humane or educational to us? Seeing dolphins free in the wild, is the only way to truly learn about these sentient beings, not exploiting them for profit! Blasko is on the board of the organization that accredited his facility. #EndCaptivity 🙏🌊🐬🌍 @worldanimalnews @peace_4animals

After a 5-month investigation, the cause of death of Vancouver Aquarium’s two belugas, Aurora and Qila, was found to be due to a mysterious toxic substance, passed to them by food, water or human interference.
-
21-year old Qila and 29-year old Aurora died suddenly within 9 days of each other. The $100,000 investigation involved dozens of veterinary pathologists, toxicologists, genome specialists, medical doctors, and field research scientists but the investigators failed to identify the killer toxin. A reason for this could be that some toxins persist for a limited amount of time in the blood stream, thus are difficult to identify.
-
To protect their three remaining cetaceans and reduce the risk of further infections, Vancouver Aquarium has introduced an enhanced food-screening process, removed vegetation adjacent to the habitat, overhauled mechanical water treatment systems and introduced a new regime of real-time testing for incoming and recirculating water. Additionally, the aquarium has updated security around the habitat to reduce the threat of intentional poisoning, or other criminal behaviour.

AMERICAN HUMANE CERTIFIED IS A SCAM! It means nothing. A Mercy For Animals undercover investigation revealed sickening cruelty to animals at Foster Farms—an American Humane Certified facility. I don't show grusome videos on this page, but if you go to AmericanHumaneScam.com you will see that the certification is a joke.

I (@Chris.Tinney), live in #Vegas, so this hits close to home. I've had friends (not vegan), come to town and want to go to the @MirageLV to see the dolphins and I've told them I wouldn't go. A couple of them went without me and our relationship was always kind of odd after that. These beautiful beings belong in their natural habitat.

How can something as small as a logo on a jacket make such a huge impact? 💙 I had the opportunity to work with amazing people like @karlasanjur who is in Taiji, Japan right now standing with @dolphin_project to give a voice for these amazing animals who cannot stand up for themselves 🐬💙 #endcaptivity #thecove #dolphinproject #animalactivist

Type B killer whales:

Over the last few decades as wild orca research has expanded, researchers have described different forms or types of whales. Known as ecotypes, these orca communities look different and have different prey preferences, feeding habits and acoustic behaviours. Their ranges can often overlap but it appears they rarely interact and don’t interbreed.
Type B orcas come in two sub-ecotypes: large and small. The large type B are smaller than type A. They are more gray than black, with a dark gray dorsal cape. They have a comparatively large white eye patch oriented parallel to the body.
They are often covered in diatoms giving any white pigment a yellow or brownish tint. They are referred to as Pack Ice killer whales because they are regularly seen foraging in groups around the edge of the pack ice. They hunt mostly seals (preferably Weddell seals) in cooperative groups, washing them off the ice floes into the water.
The smaller type B’s are referred to as Gerlache killer whales because of their abundance around Gerlache Strait off the western Antarctic Peninsula. -
They are smaller than the Pack Ice Killer Whales, with a large eyepatch that is slightly slanted downward. They travel in large groups in the open water away from the pack ice. They have been observed eating mostly penguins, often only taking the breast meat and leaving the rest of the carcass.
Besides Type B orcas, there are a total of 8 other ecotypes. This includes Type A, C, and D, as well as Residents, transients, offshore, and North Atlantic Type 1 and 2.

Tears of joy!!!!! This is so huge. Kudos to all the humans who are progressing in the world and in this amazing city where I live. We all did this!!!!! No wild animals in zoos, petting circuses, etc.

So this is what I read when I looked over sebs homework tonight. What a fabulous thing to write to a teacher at 8 years old. To fill you all in, it started with a yellow bird in a cage and fish diving in a fish tank in a pet shop that a girl called Bethan visited!! Seb had two goldfish bought for him once a long time ago but it taught him right from wrong. #youngactivist #knowsrightfromwrong #endcaptivity #captivitykills #animalsdontbelongincages #swimfree #lovethiskid #myboy #seb #vegan #vegetarian

114 days in and it's been eye-opening to follow along @ayearofcaptivity by @weanimals since Jan 1.

Animals are not here for our use or amusement. They deserve to be protected and free.

Day 114

Animals in captivity simply cannot be provided with stimulation, social groups, or space allowances similar to what most species would experience in the wild. For larger, complex animals like non-human primates, this task is all but impossible, leaving animals to inevitably experience boredom, frustration, loneliness and stress throughout their lives.

It is impossible to recreate an orcas natural habitat in captivity. Orcas swim up to 100 miles PER DAY. Putting them in tanks at places like Seaworld is like stuffing them in a bathtub. And being the highly intelligent animals they are, it literally drives them mad. They have been video taped time and time again inflicting self harm out of anxiety and depression. It is no exaggeration, imagine being placed in a bathtub...not a bathroom...just the tub...for decades. (Not to mention after you've been ripped away from your family as a child, and forced to share the bathtub with strangers!) These beautiful, LARGE creatures NEED space. Go enjoy seeing them in the wild where they belong if you wish to see them, but please don't support captivity. It is cruel 😩 #savethewhales #orca #killerwhales #boycottseaworld #EndCaptivity #blackfish

Over the weekend, Sakari and Kamea were introduced to Takara's new calf. The introduction reportedly went fairly well and the girls could be seen swimming with Takara and their new sibling.

Yes! 2 dolphins released into the wild after 20 years captivity! @richardobarry: Shoutout for my friend and hero, Mayor Park Wan-soon of Seoul, Korea. It was his decision to confiscate, rehabilitate and release the illegally captured dolphins. At a meeting in his chambers a few years ago, he told me "The Cove" had a profound effect on him and the movie influenced his decision. Here's the latest good news from our friends in South Korea:
"Two more dolphins will go back to the ocean after 20 years in captivity.
Once raised at Seoul Grand Park, two Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphins will soon return to their motherland; Jeju coastal waters.
After 20 years of living in the aquarium at Seoul Grand Park, the two male Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphins “Geumdeung” and “Daepo” will be sent back to Jeju seas around July. The announcement was made Friday by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation.
The dolphins were captured by a fishery net near Jeju Island in 1997 and 1998, respectively. They were named after the villages (Geumdeung-ri, Daepo-ri) where they were first found. Drifting through various dolphin performance theaters around Jeju Island, they were finally transported to Seoul Grand Park in 1999 and 2002.
The recent decision came as a solution to procreate higher number of their species, which can only be found near the Jeju shores in Korea. At the current time, approximately 100 Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphins reside there. Estimated to be aged around 23 to 26 years old, Geumdeung and Daepo are still diagnosed as healthy enough to procreate. An average Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphin lives up to 30 to 35 years old.
This is not the first time to return dolphins back to their homes. For the first time in Asia, the dolphin “Jedol” was released in 2013. The ministry plans to carefully carry out training sessions for the two mammals to adapt seamlessly to wildlife, as they were raised for nearly two decades. Once they become used to their local surroundings and catch preys, the two dolphins will be transported back to the southern island in May and return to the ocean....

SWIM WILD ! Captivity is unacceptable Why is this so hard for some people out there to comprehend. Prison is for criminals. Buy a ticket and the animals you LOVE pay the price ! A photo of a person kissing a dolphin sends me into a rage ! If I could punch people in the face thru insta ! I'd have a huge bicep 💪🏾 #endcaptivity#ec#emptythetanks#☠️#marinemagic#iseeyou#seaworld#dolphin#dolphinkiss#killerwhale#dead#ihateit#prison#freedive#healthy#wild#freedom#swimfree#escape#bicep#wakeup#selfish#captivitykills#youdontloveme#👀#truth#education#money

Video I took today after the final Shrine Circus protest. Two of the three elephants are showing signs of abnormal behaviour known as stereotypy behaviour. The repetitive rocking does not arise when living in their natural environments. It occurs only when subjected to barren environments, scheduled or restricted feedings, social deprivation and other causes of frustration. Please do not contribute to their suffering. #animalfreecircuses #theirlivesnotourstotake #endcaptivity #boycottthecircus #elephantlivesmatter #bekindtoanimals #notoursforentertainment #animalliberation #vegan #veganfortheanimals #govegan #alllivesmatter #untileverycageisempty #animalrights #wildanimals #animalactivism #voiceforthevoiceless #speakupfortheanimals #captivityiscruel
